What does it take to find a perfect mining spot

Hey, ive got a question and im kind of confused how does this stuff work. Okay, i found a system that had 5 planets/gas giants (high metal content planets) and all of them had rings on them. Pristine resorvoirs and metal rich. First i couldnt believe my eyes that i had found a perfect place to mine some sweet palladium-platinium. So i headed in, started mining ...absolutely nothing worth the time...best i saw was 34% silver...thats it! And this happened in all of those 5 planets rings. I took a decent time flying around and searching for that sweet spot. But nothing! Now im asking, is this working as intended?

If it is, im not really seeing any point in exploration and trying to find untouched systems with "sweet spots for mining". I feel cheated. lol But i do believe this issue should be "fixed" or explained. Thank you.
Awesome game btw.

you want metallic reserves, metal rich means generally the ores which the metals will be refined from, metallic reserves have higher concentrations of base rare metal elements, gold platinum palladium etc

Ah i see, already have one place for that. Shame, i thought there would be even better place to get huge junks of plat-pall. Oh well, no reason to leave this system then.
Thanks.

Also : it looks like everytime you fly into an asteroid belt (not sure about rings) a "major" type of resource is selected randomly. It will then appear much more often than the other resources.

I'm pretty happy with the belt I'm currently mining in (metallic, not pristine but the grade below it) and the first time I mined there I had a 50/50 chance of >20% silver. The second time I had 50/50 chance of Indite (I managed to grab enough silver to make it worthwhile but it took some time), the third time ... well ... 50/50 chance of Paladium (with one particular stone giving 50-60% pure paladium :D, after that it was gold. Then again paladium (I managed to grab one ton before some NPC pirate told me to eject it. I got out of the system and back into my station of choice with 34% hull as my hauler doesn't have any shields. It was still worth it :). The last round I did was mostly Gallite.

So my advice : if you are not happy with what you are finding, get out and get back in, or just realize that 5 tons of rapidly collected gallite is still worth > 10K which can make the trip worthwhile, depending on your expectations.

Everything that is not metallic is worthless. Of those only pristine and major are worth your time.
Mining is unbearably boring though, I can't bring myself to do it knowing I can make 300k an hour.
