Engineers What does Lightweighted Armor?

Apparently it doesn't reduce the mass of the armor (if standard hull is used), while reducing "hull boost". Heavy duty armor does not increase mass and is overall better.

What am I missing here?

I thought I might be able to make my DBX weight less…

Hull Boost while giving more hitpoints adds - or actually shifts your ships OPTIMUM Mass.

So Leightweight gives you resitance while barely touching the Optimum Mass.
Heavy gives more Resistance while influence Hitpoints AND Optimum Mass.

Optimum Mass defines not only your Acceleration/Deceleration but also turning rate in conjunction with engine Power. Also influences your shield Power ( as that is also linked to Mass Factors ).
Increasing Mass also increases your MASSLOCK Radius by a slight Amount.

At least thats what i found out.

Cheers!

Thanks for the answer.

How does Hull boost affect the optimum mass? Is a reduction of hull boost increasing the agility of a ship?

I haven't done enough tests to give you precise Numbers. Will have to check on that over the coming weeks.

Agility is maxed when your ship-total configuration is closest to the optimum mass of your thrusters using 2 Pips ( 100% Power distribution as baseline ) - while your drives also have a percentage of min and max values which influence the extra bonus applied when distributing more power factoring in the difference to your optimum mass. Basically means you can use less power in engines the closer your to your optimum while still having the same "Bluezone" optimum turning balance as before while allowing you also greater speeds.

Cheers!

Thanks for your answers.

But I'm still struggling to understand the Lightweighted Armor mod from engineers.

The mod reduces the Hull Boost - and I'm struggling to understand what effect this has (beside a reduction in the Armor value) on the agility of the ship.
The Heavy Duty Armor mod increased the Hull Boost and the resistances.
The Heavy Duty Armor mod looks like a mod without any drawbacks, while the Lightweighted Armor Mode has the "drawback" of a reduced Hull Boost.

Since the reduced fuel consumption of a FSD gets displayed as a "red" change (I guess red indicates bad) while it is a very positive effect, I'm now wondering if the "red" reduction of Hull Boost actually increases the agility of a ship as a positive effect.

(And the description of the mod is wrong as it says that it reduces the mass of the ship, but it doesn't).

can't wait for that spreadsheet with all the stats for all the different possible mod outcomes :D
if anything we need more dynamic markets, more randomization of equipment...ships themselves

Lightweight armor reduces the weight. Check at the acutual engineer, not in a database.

Just checked it with my DBS with military armor, and with that armor the Lightweighted Armor mod does reduce the mass. I'm quite sure that with my DBX with no additional armor it got no weight reduction, but I will check it again.

On your standard fitted Lightweight Alloys, heavy duty armour doesn't increase the mass however if you add Military Grade etc, it will increase the mass further.
