Newcomer / Intro What does notoriety do (besides not letting you pay fines and bounties)?

Done some powerplay lately and ended up with a notoriety of 3 and some bounties on my corvette, probably shot some ships i shouldn't have. Don't have much experience with the new C&P system (i know i have to play a few hours for it to decrease) so i was wondering,

What are the in-game consequences for having notoriety, if using another ship that is clean? Does my superpower reputation keep decreasing over it? If i change ships, and only use my hot ship for illegal activities from now on, what problems do i face when using my other ships? Do i still show up as wanted if scanned and not on my hot ship or in the systems that i am wanted?

Thanks for your response. I 've read that, but what part of it translates when using another ship is still not clear to me.

All notoriety does is:
a) Stop you from paying off a bounty - In a clean ship you dont have one
b) Improve the response time of any ATV - In a clean ship they wont be summoned

It does still decay when in a clean ship AFAIK, but I am generally a good boy.

My understanding is that notoriety sticks with the commander.
So it doesn't matter if you're in a clean or hot ship.
Your notoriety sticks with you and decays with time.

The bounties stick with the hot ship.
So you'll be wanted in the hot ship (because people want the bounties) but not the clean one.

I might be wrong - I usually am. :(

It adds tedium and irritation apparently. Like some I preferred the way it was in 2.4, as solo/co-op players my wing of friends had no issues with griefers and the new C&P just added faff and "Hot" AFK action.

Sad times for some [knocked out]

So as i understand it you can be a legitimate pilot in all other ships, and keep a hot ship around for when you want to do crime? When using it, you face the authorities and bounty hunters etc, but when using any other clean ship it is (legal) business as usual?

It does seem like a weird system if thats the case

... "g" stupid is my take on the whole C&P nonsense.

FD won't actually take the bull by the horn and really punish PKers 'cos they are either a) hugely biased towards PvP combat or b) are scared of the criticism that will follow - chose the reason that most suits. ;) )

Kills piracy and doesn't prevent ganking.

More specifically, "wanted" is based on the ship; if the ship has not been used in a crime in the current jurisdiction, you're not wanted, period (kill stuff in your 'Vette, switch to something else, no longer wanted).

Notoriety multiplies any bounty(s) on your current ship and prevents you from paying them off.

.

It doesn't effect Piracy at all. I have been pirating Cmdr's with no issues.
You only gain Notoriety if you kill one. Which I have done. But you know.... you shouldn't fight back - trader Anaconda's lose to pirate Pythons.

You must be more persuasive than I. When I used to pirate pre-3.0, I could threaten people and force their hand. Now, my heart just isn't in it because the threat is hollow. I'm not going to risk a rebuy-based bounty and notoriety for a few thousand in cargo, and they know it. Interdict a Type-6 in my Clipper, 90M price difference; he/she knows I'm not doing to destroy them for the 50t cargo I asked for. The dynamic just isn't there anymore, for me anyway.

Maybe it would be different if I had tons of cash, but I'm saving for a Cutter atm, and pirating isn't exactly good money.

Don't threaten them. Don't even talk to them.

Pull them out of Supercruise and start spamming Hatch breaker limpets. Then just as they are about to Hi wake out, hit them with a Grom Bomb, FSD Disruptor missile.

At this point one of three things will happen.

1. You will get a decent amount of cargo and they jump out when the FSD Disruptor effect wears off.
2. They get confused and think they can never jump out and you get all their cargo - happens a lot.
3. They attack you and you kill them. Unless it's a T6 or something small, then just ignore their shots.

There is no money in Piracy but it is still fun.

That's the difference, I don't limpet (can't be bothered gathering cargo one at a time). I interdict, then demand they submit/throttle down and hand over 1/4 of their cargo. If they acquiesce, I let them go. If they try to run, I destroy their thrusters and demand half their cargo. If they still fail to comply, I destroy them.

Pre-3.0, this approach worked. Now, I get to step 3 and just have to let them go. The bounty isn't worth it unless you're rich. Once I have my Cutter, happy days. Until then, PvP piracy is just for giggles.

Well you can set your Python up to have both Collector and Hatch breaker limpets. 3B Collectors have longer range than 3A.

Don't be afraid of the bounty. You have to die for that to be a problem. Just adds excitement.

The Cutter isn't a solution to the galaxies problems. I have had one or two. I don't own one now. It just turns so poorly.
