What Does Selling Exploration Data Do For The BGS?

I'm currently out exploring, but I keep hearing about the plight of Sirius Corp.
I'm wondering if my exploration data is of any value to restoring order in one of their systems?

And just in general. I've been meaning to learn a bit more about the BGS overall.

Sirius Corporation are currently in expansion and claim the negative effects of expanding can be offset with exploration data. I guess we will find out in the next few days if a lockdown can be avoided.

Start here!

Selling explo data increases the influence level of the station owning faction. It also fills the Boom state "bucket" helping to trigger a boom state across the faction. (increased prices, production and double inf effect of trade). Explo data is not influence effective in certain states (War/Civil War). The influence modifiers of states are faction-wide and not system specific - even if a conflict is located in a particular system. - Selling explo data to a faction that is at war in another system will have zero influence effect.

Nice and simple! :)

What Oldric is talking about is that when a faction enters an active expansion state some of their influence (15% I think) is eaten by the expansion, so in order to reduce that effect selling explo data is effective.

Is there a cap? When I sell 50 million at once for example?

There is an ongoing debate about both individual CMDR caps and indeed total influence movement caps in a single tick.

My own view is that there is not a hard cmdr cap but extreme diminishing returns after a certain point which makes it act in effect as a hard cap. Better to sell vast amounts of data over a number of ticks for max effect. There are few hard figures and it will depend very much on other factors - primarily system population.

Better still undertaking multiple activities appears to give better effects too.

So, just to be clear: do the other factions (say, maybe, a player minor faction) that do not control the station get any bonus if you sell at that station? Or nothing?

We always ask players to sell 10mil worth of data, then move on to a different station we own and do same, or keep it for the next tick depending on how systems are doing. I think past 10mil there is no or little benefit any more.

That's what we assume and how we hanlde it too.

Nope...Nada!

10 million may also be excessive.

Also are you talking about different stations in the same system or different systems. Our working assumption is that any cmdr "cap" is system specific not station specific. We could be wrong of course.

Explo sales benefit goes to Station owners only. In fact it indirectly hurts the other factions in system as for a faction to rise it has to take the inf from other factions (its a little more complicated than that - all actions are aggregated +/- for each faction then rounded to 100% total)

Thanks!

(And everyone else!)

When I return, I'll stop by all Sirius Corp owned stations and sell off 10~mil, until I run out. Lol

That's assuming;
A) The world hasn't ended before I get back, and Sirius Corp has been destroyed and all traces of their existence removed.
B) I don't neutron jump into nowhere.
C) I don't die.
D) I remember what I'm doing and sell it at the correct place.

:D
