what does ship integrity actually do?

so i have been playing for a while now and its just something i have ignored,as i have mainly been trading my way to the top but what does ship integrity actuly do? as i have a ship integrity of 78%, yet my ship is fully repaired. iv just always ignored it as it can cost a few millions in my conda :)

Integrity is the general wear on your ship from hull stress, primary cause is SC travel, I would assume the logic is that bending space causes stresses on the hull. Not something you necessarily need to worry about, it can't cause a catastrophic failure. However, it does weaken the hull, up to a maximum of 30% reduction.

You really have to ask yourself is 30% hull loss that critical? For me it's not even that important in combat, when my shields go down, I am generally planning my exit strategy.

I honestly think that the ship should degrade over time and use, in FFE you had to pay for a service to make sure its fully working. A Hyperdrive that's failing is prone to misjumps :)
