What Does This Mean

Agreed with Vedmo. As Leesti is lore locked, I don't think you could get a player faction in there, so player groups could adopt a minor faction.

I'd imagine this goes back to very early in the game though, so I don't know if they'll be active. It's an old artifact in other words, but like Vedmo I can't say for sure - this is just guesswork from experience.

yea this is the system Arque - which has the engineer Palin - which is now owned by a player faction ARRC - sooo an engineer system now owned by a player faction

There is in actual fact no such thing as adopted or player minor faction. Players or player groups don't own or control factions. The only time the player has a special status with a minor faction is when they submit an application for one to be added in the game; even then it happens outside of the game. From that point on, the faction treats every CMDR the same. This is all but imaginary roleplay.

ok I get now that a player faction can own an engineer system - which personally is kind of an issue - but my real question is what does that Adopted flag mean? & how can it be done???

Player minor faction - inserted into the game to represent a group of players.
Adopted - the same, but not seen as official by FD or the game. Probably happened before pmfs were able to be inserted.

That is the only difference. But as said up above, it's roleplay really. If a group of players abandons their pmf, or goes to try and find snowfall in the DRC, then the pmf lives on, but isn't being supported any longer, and may be pushed around more easily by other pmfs, or the bgs hamster.

But, as also said above, inara isn't sanctioning anything - it is merely putting an information tag next to the name of the faction.

And Palin was moved from Maia a long time ago, so that was the first non-conforming change to the "rule" that pmfs can't be inserted into an engineer system. Hope that helps?

Edit - how to do it? Make a time machine.

i hate to correct you, but:
  • when player minor factions were introduced, there was a short window of time for player groups, which had backed NPC factions before, to adopt them officially. Mercs of Mikunn most notable, but there are others as well. Wolf 406 Transport, ... HIP [i can't remember the number but i know you well!] for Equality ...
  • those factions are officially adopted, recognized by FDEV and same rules as for player minor factions apply (for exampel for new player factions not being placed in a system they are already in).

how can it be done???
  • not anymore.
  • you can, of course, pledge a squadron to any faction, including all npc factions.

engineers never controlled any system.

they have their workshop, which is hardcoded and can't change hands, but systems have always been controlled by factions. Arque is special, as it is theonly workshop being at a regular surface station - until palin moves back to maia :)

You're welcome, glad to help, even if I was vague about stuff!

No probs, correct away!

I didn't know the precise accuracy of what I was saying as it was a little before my time, but I wanted to get the gist across to the OP. Thanks for the info though, it's always useful to know these things :)

Uh, like Canonn controls Khun, another engineer system. So not new.

Edit: Pretty sure there is another engineer system controlled by the PMF, not sure which 🤔
Quite a few.

All four in Colonia (Galcop, Communists, CCN, UCA). Deciat (Ryders of the Void), Wolf 397 (Wolf 406 Transport and Co), Giryak (Beyond Infinity Corporation), Laksak (Intergalactic Nova Republic), Meene (Brazilian League of Pilots), Muang (Winged Hussars)

So ... 25 engineers, 4 are in locked systems, 1 is in WHN where there can't be PMFs ... of the remaining 20, 12 are in PMF-controlled systems.
(60% of possible engineers being in PMF-controlled systems shouldn't be a great surprise since ~50% of systems are PMF-controlled and there is some tendency to go for prestige systems)

Player factions don't own anything, they don't even own the player faction. I could claim that I own all factions in Sol and it wouldn't be any different from every other player or non player faction.
