What drives for a trade Cutter?

I see 0 Mj shields and no possible way to fix a class 5 shield gen.

https://coriolis.edcd.io/outfit/imp...QFMCGBzANikICMERQA===&bn=Multi-purpose Cutter

works though, doesn't come anywhere near that shield strength.

I sense tomfoolery.

Nah - it's just that the Carolis import from EDDI doesn't transfer the mods.

You have to modify a class 5 shield on a smaller ship, then mod it up to meet the required mass. Mine's a Class 5A L5 Reinforced shield with an 11.6% increase to Optimal Hull Mass. Once modded to meet the min mass required, you can then transfer it to the Cutter.

I then add/drop and make adjustments to get the max range I'm looking for on an individual trade route. At 5000Cr/Ton/ round trip you generate 3.8 Million profit. You need 5264/T to get to 4 Mil. Nice diversion once in a while to add some Kaching to the bank.

Just get D rated 8 thrusters with the best DDs you can muster.

I spent ages (and 150m credits) on As and they (because of weight) ended up exactly as good as the Ds despite having the same G5DD roll.

Just accept the Cutter is an oil tanker and go with the lighter, cheaper drives.

This, compliment it with PA, APA and pack hounds. You won't regret it

Not worth it on a Trade ship. When I trade, I don't stop to do combat as it just lowers profits. I also have a Combat Cutter and A Mission Cutter. Those are totally different configurations. My All-Purpose Cutter can do combat and I will use it as an armed trader on occasion, but for pure trade, I'm looking for max cargo and jump-range so I can generate max profit per round trip.

4 Mil per round trip is - shall we say - "very rewarding."

Interesting thought! Never tried that. How much did it improve max jump range?

I do like the heat properties on A rated stuff, but if I can see a performance gain it would certainly be worth trying. My 760T laden range is currently at 21.19 LY.

I've found that the base mass is so high on the Cutter that saving a few tons here or there is usually a savings measured in decimal places.

Also - with 8A Dirty Drives and an engine focused Power Distributor, you can easily keep this thing above 450M/S continuously. I can also boost into a FSD charge, which will overheat some ships - Beluga comes to mind.

G5FSD, not a great roll but decent. 720T, stuffed with 5D hull reinforcement but A rated, except D life support.

D rated thrusters, 139% optimal, 25.81/64.52/11.47 Pitch Roll Yaw
287, 459 boost
Jump range (unladen): 30.77 Ly
Jump range (full tank): 29.84 Ly
Jump range (laden): 21.97 Ly

A rated thrusters, 136% optimal, 26.11/65.26/11.60 Pitch Roll Yaw
290, 464 boost
Jump range (unladen): 29.53 Ly
Jump range (full tank): 28.61 Ly
Jump range (laden): 21.02 Ly

So, as I say, 5 M/s and naff all rotational benefit for over a light year reduction and 150m credits.

Thx for the numbers. Sure looks like it's worth trying. That 39% on the D Thrusters might be hard to get - but it sure gave a nice bump to the jump range. I think I've currently got 25 rolls in the bank, so I just may give it a go. A +.95 LY improvement would be worth it.
