I've returned to the core systems occasionally these past few days.. most I've ever seen in "my island" is like 3 human players, max. Could be more online around Eranin/Aulin/IBootis but I could only see 3 at maximum.
In fact I am pretty sure there's more, cuz when I jump into Hyperspace there's a lag of about 5 seconds before the tunnel effect kicks in after the countdown. So networking code is doing *something* but once I come out, I could see only the 3 I mentioned.

I've seen plenty of players around, peak about 9 in core systems, it's just that I don't think people are using the social features much so it does feel a little bit empty.
Seeing as this beta testing I'd like to see if myself and a random can jump to the same system and still remain in the same network island without even being friends...
