With all the recent reveals and announcements and through dev updates and newsletters, I was wondering what feature of release 2.1, "The Engineers", people are looking forward to the most.

For me, it's definitely that we are finally getting some persistent NPCs and faces for NPCs, in addition to the reworked mission system.

So, what do you guys and gals are looking forward to the most?
 
I'm looking forward to how all of the new game play additions will completely flip how you conduct yourself in the universe right now. Combat engagements will be riskier, trading, exploring, mining will also change; all of this means a slew of new ways to play.

Imagine chasing down that high bounty anaconda, when you finally interdict him to bring him to justice, he deploys a Sidewinder that has dual Regen beam lasers, making your job that much harder, the pay that much more worth it.

It it has the potential to really differentiate how the game is played and experienced by players, that's what has me really hooked.

Yeah, sounds nice, but ship deployed fighters aren't part of 2.1, they come later (in 2.2, I think) :p

They are improving class 2 and class 3 thrusters. I am looking forward to do ripping through canyons in my Courier after its thrusters have been upgraded.
 
Reworked mission system seems to be very popular with people. Not really surprising, I suppose. I just hope people don't expect too much from it (I don't think we will get escort missions with it, for example)
 
Outfitting UI if I had to pick anything that'd top the list.

Everything else is dandy but this is something categorically every player will spend a significant amount of time looking at.
 
The missions. Hopefully it will be something more than "haul X to Y" or "kill X amount of Y". Instead, it would be cool if we have something like "Gather X amount of Y and sell it to Z. Z will give you A and you need it to secretly get it to B (which causes an ambush where you have to kill C amounts of D) and you recieve a rare material for some engineer. You will find out the location by doing another of these mission."

Depth, srsly, DEPTH!


Other than that, I want to have enhanced Plasmas and better shields as well as MISSILES!
 
I voted missions but there was some reference to alien POI's that looked pretty interesting.

Edit: from the newsletter, Points of Interest (POIs) are encounters that Horizons players can discover upon the surfaces of planets and moons. The Engineers update adds new types of POIs to be discovered, and so new things that can happen on the surface, and others have been improved – including being guarded by low-flying ships. Also, human-created POIs will also not be encountered as far out from human space as they are at the moment.

I'm mainly hyped about persistent NPCs and, oddly, improved asteroid rendering. I refuse to get excited about missions until I see them for myself, and I'm not really interested in crafting. That might come later. :)

Newsletter 117 showed a concept for new planetary base layouts. I really hope we get this in the game, but I guess concepts should still be considered unconfirmed for 2.1:
