What film reminds you of Elite Dangerous and why ?

I'm watching Elysium, the story and space scenes just make me think of ED and am imaginary GalNet story arc of a minor system faction rebelling against its overlords.

Does anyone else start relating particular films to ED now you're playing it ?

Any other films that aren't Star Wars etc ?

Elite: Dangerous reminds me of Independence War 2.

But without the ability to forcibly "dock" with other ships and carry them off into a nebula for no reason while giggling.

Does that count? I know it's not a film.

Elite does remind me of Contact though, come to think of it. Has a pretty Carl Sagan vibe to it.

Its got to be Bladerunner for me.
Its cold, futuristic, capitalist and has the same sense of detachment and discovery about it.

> 2001 space odyssey

Me too, much to do with the recognition of the coriolis effect and some of the shared music from Frontier.

I second Bladerunner. Loved the original Elite "Dark Wheel" Novella........which I still have somewhere from my C64 days.......and Bladerunner reminds me so much of when they go planetside.

Anyone got Peter Jackson's number ?
Yeah, he's a director that knows how to bleed a stone. That's his number. The best director to have for something like Elite Dangerous is someone like Ridley Scott. He'd bring the universe and mythos of it alive. If not him, then Christopher Nolan, who did Intersteller. That film is more at home with Elite.

Elite has always been "space opera" in style, which is why it fits well alongside such films as 2001 and Intersteller, which are themselves space opera. This is one of the differences between Elite Dangerous and Star Citizen. ED is space opera, SC is science fiction.

SC is Starbucks. E: D is a small cafe in Rickmansworth that does amazing afternoon teas.

In terms of films - Serenity (in fact, all of Firefly).

I'd have to disagree on the space opera, ED isn't 2001 or Interstellar. Maybe because of the Blue Danube and floating to an Orbis is a reminder of that but there's no exploration of humanity here, it's dog eat dog/ trading/ piracy.

The Dark Wheel is a great novella that started the lore, personally didn't see that as opera.
