What games kept you going until Elite: Dangerous came out??

For me, the game that most closely followed the legacy of FE2 and FFE wasn't set in space at all... The Bethesda Pirates of The Caribbean game with the New Horizon's mod had it all... Trading, Exploration, Smuggling, Piracy, Combat... Even planetary landings and FPS :)

So what's kept the rest of y'all going between FFE and now?

I tried Pioneer spacesim a bit, it's a remake of Frontier.
But I'm afraid I mostly clicked this forum, which I do less since I could enter the Gamma.
