Horizons What gives...???

Hello there Commanders,
I have not played Elite for perhaps 4 months.
This weekend, having lotsa time and all, i decided to give it a try. Also, being curous, I have purchased Horizons.

Now, I fly fully battle equiped Vulture. Before, that long time ago, I could take on a Python, with a bit of luck even Anaconda. Other Vultures or Vipers or Cobras were just a walk in a park.
Today to my astonishement, Vultures are near impossible! And never mind a Vulture, as I am being totally outmanouvered by Haulers, Adders, Eagles and even Sidewinders!!!!!!!

I use mouse, so I know I am at a bit of a disadvantage here. But anyway!?!?!

What gives ??????!!!!!!????

(its a one thing to be killed by a fighter Python or Anaconda, but it is something different to be interdicted by 2 Sidewinders, yes two sidewinders and smashed to pieaces by them!)

What am I doing wrong?

The AI is, in my opinion, still bad. Yes, it is better, and it is hard enough, but the key thing here is that it is dumb and predictable.
Easy to beat smaller ships:
FA off, hold S and fly backwards. If the enemy catches up, pitch up or down so that you are facing them. If the enemy tried to go above you, go down so you can see them, all whilst holding reverse. Same for if they go below you, go up.

For larger ships like the anaconda, get close to their front. Sure they will be guns blazing, but if you get close enough, they will turn away and expose their power plant. Usually for me, enemy anacondas point up to move away.

1 last thing - I haven't died since 2.0 horizons. Oh and I'm in a conda. Vultures like this are easy!

Again and again I am losing figths to a single Sidewinder. A Sidewinder!    ?
I mean, I am not a space ralf schumacher but I should be able to fight off a sidewinder, or an eagle, or most ships up to my size? This is getting to the point of SI footbal manager, where a script decides the outcome before an actual event. And where AI ALWAYS is at a tremendous advantage.
Naaae, been out for 4 months, came back, and totaly lost intrest for this. stupid and ridiculous. Waste of money.

If the Ai is to hard, there is no shame in turning tail and running till you can high wake out. Live to fight another day.

What is the loadout of your Vulture?

Also pips managment is rather important, when under fire make sure to put 4 pips into system as then your shields are a lot stronger then with less pips to system. Getting destroyed by a sidewinder sounds a bit like a combination of bad shields and 0 pips to system.

I had a similar problem and found it equally frustrating. I didn't really want to fly my ship in reverse and was pretty close to a rage quit!!

I took some time out to raise my rep with all of the engineers (mostly by flying 2km from their bases and collecting lots and lots of low level materials, which I'd then use to create lots of low level mods up until I maxed out my reputation). Since I've tricked out my Cutter and FDL with all Grade 5 engineering mods - I'm back to feeling invincible again!!

It sucks but perhaps it's something you could consider - In some sense I found it quite good fun - just driving around on a surface picking up rocks and watching Netflix...

cheers for your reply. the layout of my Vulture is here: https://coriolis.io/outfit/vulture/...044a2b2o6624.Iw19kA==.EwBhrSvdiA==?bn=Vulture
As for the pipes, I use 4 on weapons, but I will give it a try with 4 on sys.
My biggest issue is (and I admit again that I am not space shummacher lol) is that every ship in galaxy, be it an Adder, Eagle, Hauler or even Type-9 Heavy (seems like) easely outmanouvers my Vulture. I mean Vulture is supposed to be agile (even with sheetty mouse control) but its turn rate right now is less of that of a Titanic. While every other ship dances around it like Lisa Ann around, well, you know what :)
3-4 hits from Sidewinder or Eagle and shields are down (amazing weapons on those ships!). and then in 2 seconds my ship gets destroyed. While on other hand I spend 5 minutes destroying ASP Explorer. Been hitting it and hitting, and hitting.....
It just feels weird....
Like I said, last time I played was early summer. Got the Horizons yesterday and slaaaam, it all hit me. I used to be okey in my Vulture. Like I said, I could take on a Python, even (with plenty of luck!) an Anaconda!
Now I feel like I am driving an old Trabant..... Not even a Skoda, but old fashion Trabbi... (at least Trabbis were cool, my Vulture aint....)

I noticed when I came after a few months and the update the same thing,,, ships that I could fight against 2-4 NPC and hold my own went to dying with 1 within seconds .... My python was one of them,, ended up selling the dang thing. My Conda was not as bad but until I got it to the engineers it was also a crappy ship, but now with the updated equipment it is better.

Quite a lot of shields, so thats not the problem. Its the pips then, I recommend ignore engine as one of the good things about the Vulture is that he is not suffering that much from 0 pips to engine, he also not suffers much from not having the best thrusters tough I would still recommend to get some better then E rated ones if the money is there.
Keep the pips between Sys and Wep, I too use the two pulslasers so I know that the capacitor can get empty pretty quick with 2 to weapons so try to get the hang of juggling them around. When under fire 4 to sys and when out of fire 4 to wep for faster recharge. And it may sound weird, but maybe ditch a Shieldbooster for a second chaff. It means less shieldstrenght but you can use the second chaff when the first one is still in the cooldown. Doesn't help against all enemys as some have fixed weapons but I do think overall its worth it, but you probably would have to try it out and see if its working for you too.

When you have trouble with outmanouvering an opponent there are couple things you can do. Hitting reverse can help a lot as that will improve your turningrate, if you can also use your up/down thrusters as they make you turn a bit faster too. Going FAoff here and there helps too but in my expierence you don't necesserly have to as long as you do the other 2.
If your are stuck in loop you also can just boost straight out of it to sorta reset combat positin of you and your Enemy. NPC sure have changed with 2.1 so doing the same thing as before may not work and you have to fiddle around a bit and try new things to get the hang of it. In Theory only the Eagle is more manouverable then the Vulture but the npcs are really good at using all there thrusters to maximaize turningrates.

Then there are of course mods. Sounds like a lot of grinding but really just some simple grade 1 mods can already give good improvments espescially those grade 1 shieldbooster mod are not shaby at all.

Now please be patient with me as it has been some time, and Horizons is new to me. So this might sound like a moronic newbie question (which it actually is), but how do you get all kind of boosters? On one occasion I were contacted by Tod Something, an engeneer (I think). But once I got there there was nothing for me to do or gain. Am I still on the right track? Or am I totally out of bounds?

Have yet to get into the firght, but as soon as I do I will check it with pipes. I have 3,5 on sys right now. 2,5 on weapons and 0,5 on eng, just so I can get that boost.
Money is not my problem, but I need to balance my power use, thus I chose to have 5E on my thrusters.

Also, my latest ship before I quit was FdL. Fully fit. I loved it but even with max shields and 5 or six shield boosters it would still get hit and damaged easily. I think weapons were kinda weak also. Now I see you can get 4A pulse laser on it.
Since you fly/flew it, what is your opinion?
Cheers

ps: just changet my specs a tiny bit...: https://coriolis.io/outfit/vulture/...004a032o6624.Iw19kA==.EwBhrSvdiA==?bn=Vulture

Once you get acess to a engineer you have to do something for him, Todd wants 100'000 Credits of Bountys (no matter what faction, doesn't have to be a local one) and if you give that to him he will do mods for you. Hes not very useful for your Vulture tough, the two I would highly recommend for your Vulture are Felicity Farseer (shes a bit of a pain to unlock as you have to get her a meta alloy from Maia which is a long way, but you only have to do it once) who next to FSD mods also offers Shieldbooster, Thrusters and Powerplant mods which will be very useful. And The Dweller, he can get you powerdistributor and Pulslaser mods.
You can check them out more in detail here: http://inara.cz/galaxy-engineers
For grade 1 mods they only want 1 unit of something very common and not hard to get, its definitly worth it!

And I know, the Vulture has a bit powerproblems, all the more reason to visit Felicity as you can get a grade 1 overcharged powerplant there which gives you more. Should that not be enough then she can't do more then grade 1 on powerplant tough.

The FDL is pretty much the strongest combat Ship and as far as I can see the most used for pvp. And yes, there are more Class 4 Weapons now then before 2.1. The new ones are Puls, Burst and beam lasers as well Class 4 Multicannons (Class 3 Multicannons have been added too in case you wanna try it on the Vulture). But I do think the Vulture is well good enough for PvE, and of course the FDL will suffer much more from 0 pips to engine so juggling pips around between all 3 will be much more important on the FDL.

But he does have very good shields and hes really fast, so getting out of trouble is easier. You can get speed to outrun any npc with the Vulture too but then you have to go for the higher class mods which can take some time (my modded vulture has a top speed of more then 520, no npc can keep up with that for long)

Superb link!
Thanx!
Will try my Vulture, save money for FdL (now have 98 mil so I am some 50 mil short), and otherwise will let you know my progress.
Thanx for your help and your time explaining stuff to me!

Hope it helps, I really like the Vulture its a splendid ship. Spend many, many hours in CZ's with it which is why he mostly responsible for my Elite Combat Rank :D

In 2.1 the NPCs can be engineered, so depending on the level of the ship, smaller ships could have devastating impact.

Tactics are just as important as firepower. Just lately I have been flying unarmed in some situations, despite the NPCs. Carrying Micro-weave Cooling Hoses and Modular Terminals certainly got interesting.

If you find it frustrating, take a break, then learn how to fight or run.

Wait til 2.2 on Tuesday...

Didn't you know? Modular Terminals have alien DNA (some say Thargoid) that means they know when you're looking for them. They're everywhere when you don't want them, and nowhere when you do.

I just take random missions from boom expansion industry/refinery systems, and they appear. Look in LYR space.

If I get any more, I'll post in the Engineering section of the forums.

Raven if you want modular terminals go to a high tech system then go to the mission board.

Scroll down the list of missions till you find one that gives 'Commodities [4]' as part of the reward.

Sometimes - depending on RNG - those rewards will be Modular Terminals.

If no mission lists them press ESC and reload in Solo mode. Then scroll down list.

If still no joy press ESC and reload back to Open. Do this four or five times and eventually you'll get a mission which provides Modular Terminals. Sometimes you get em on the first try :D

Keep at it - hope that helps.
