What happened here???

Hey.

i was trading in my type 6, minding my own business... And I was interdicted of course, for the thousandth time....on my way to a station on an ordinary trade mission. I'm used to that, have no trouble submitting and getting away with barely my shields scratched. I have chaff and shield cells, and a top grade shield with shield booster.

Well, this time, as soon as I submitted, it took the guy literally two seconds or less to utterly destroy me. He instantly took my shields and half my hull down. A split second later, I was gone. Like, two shots total. What can do that? Now, I'm used to missiles, and there was no incoming missile warning (though they rarely do much damage anyway) and I did nothing different. There was no time for communication and I have no idea whether it was an NPC or a CMDR being an :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad: . I had several missions going and lost at least a couple million in revenue and cargo.

I went straight back to the same area to see if I could pick up my cargo (can you do that?), and kept being interdicted by an NPC (not like the two shot killer, more the usual harassment) so I had to leave. Stopped in a weak signal source and what was there were not my goods anyway.

Needless to say, I'd love to have some idea what happened, as i was blown apart so fast there was literally no time to do anything. Some ships who interdict me are more powerful than others, but this was so far beyond anything I've encountered....any ideas what the hell happened?

cheers

Most interdiction npc pirates have low level ships, vulture, eagle, etc. You might have stumbled upon one with a python or anaconda with nice weapons. And the Type 6 isn't very particularly well armored or shielded in the hierarchy of ships.

I was once interdicted by a CMDR who simply sat still, not looking at me, and killed me in seconds just like you experienced. It was bizarre and infuriating.

I assumed it was a hacker, but I've only ever seen the one, and I always play in Open.

I know it's an aside from your primary query, but no, you can't do that. Once all CMDRs leave the Newtonian-space instance (by supercruise or death), the cargo evaporates into the quantum miasma of de-instancing. IF it was a CMDR who hit you and IF you actually dropped your cargo before you exploded (unlikely unless you jettisoned) and IF they then picked up that cargo and IF you can find them again before they sell that cargo and IF you either ask nicely and they give it to you OR you retrieve it by force, THEN and only then will you "get your cargo back". That's a lot of pretty improbable things to all happen in your favour in order to make it happen.

And you should be able to tell if it was a CMDR or not from the death screen, as it will say "You have been killed by CMDR xxxx" if it was a CMDR.

As for what weapon could do that, ummm... a full set of high-class railguns?

Maybe a volley of plasma bolts and rail guns fired at the same time. The rail guns would have been the second hit because there is a delay before they fire. Both of these do huge damage and are a first strike weapon since they are fixed and so tricky to aim at a moving target.

:) i cannot rep at the moment but you would have deserved it!

@OP: T6 is very very squishy, both with or without shield. with a good equipped big ship probably it can be killed in 1 or 2 seconds. Or it was a cheater

Ahh, yes, the "Dangerous" part of Elite: Dangerous ;)

I think most of us have tried that at least once, although it's much (much) more likely if you participate in a CG.

I strongly suspect what you encountered was another player and not an NPC. There's quite a behavioural difference between the two. NPCs tend to dally a lot, even when it makes absolutely no sense to do so, while (some) other players will happily blow you out of the sky without thinking twice (or at all).

There are three ways to react when something like this happens:

1. Rage quit.
2. Keep on trucking, changing nothing, expecting things to be different next time.
3. Evaluate your actions, learn from them, do things differently, smarter.

Glad you didn't chose option 1, although it does provide a certain amount of humour on the forums.

Option 2 is pretty much the definition of insanity according to Einstein.

You seem headed towards option 3 just by posting here as you did. What happened? Always a good first question. Answer: Another players blasted you out of the sky before you had time to react.

The next question is, what should you do about it? This is where you have a lot of options. My very first (and easiest) suggestion would be that you simply become more aware of your surroundings. When you enter a system (take off, jump in), look at your radar. Are there any hollow squares or triangles? These are other players and potentially much more dangerous than any NPC.

Once you know what to be aware of, you can start considering other actions. Anyone who wants to interdict you needs to get behind you. Going straight towards the station makes that awfully easy. There are quite a few methods one can employ to avoid interdictions, both preemptively and winning the "interdiction mini-game". A quick search in the forums should get you plenty of solid advice.

There's also the option of moving to a less populated region of space. Or switching to a more formidable ship. Or finding someone to wing up with. Or...

And, remember, ENJOY THE GAME! That's all it is, a game.

Ya sorry OP, splatting a T6, even a maxed out one, is NOT hard to do in the slightest. They are very squishy and rightfully so.

Other than the possibility that your opponent simply had something along the lines of a Python or better, did you manage to check how many ships were on your radar after being pulled out of SC? Its possible a wing of ships interdicted you and all alpha'd you at the same time.

There's always gonna be something bigger and nastier out there than you. It is a tad galling but it does spice the gameplay up. In hindsight of course :-]

One thing I always do if being interdicted. Hit the "Cycle Next Enemy" button when interdiction starts. This will target the interdictor and give you invaluable info very quickly. Take a second or two preparing before submitting. You have more time than you think.

An FAS with a Class 4 plasma acc up top will take out a shielded T6 with two shots. The first takes all of the shields and the second all of the hull.

I've seen it done on numerous occasions...

And not just a FAS, any ship with a Huge/large Hard point occupied with a C4/C3 PA. The FDL for instance, can have a C4 PA, 2x B2 Railguns and 2x 'class 2' what ever tickles your fancy. Just Devastating! Powering this lot is a nightmare, but hopefully 1.5 may change that!

When your ship was destroyed, a message would've appeared on screen telling you how you died.

For example:
- Your ship was destroyed by CMDR AUNTIE AARDVARK - If it was a CMDR

- Your ship was destroyed by BOB AARDVARK - If it was a NPC

- Your ship was destroyed - If you ran in to an asteroid or something.

If you're pledged to a power, the AI interdictors will be far, far stronger than the normal pirate riffraff. So, if you're pledged to a power in PP and trying to trade, don't bother. If not, it was likely a player, as many others have suggested.

True enough.

For whatever reason I find the PA much easier to use on the FAS due to it being on top than any other ship where it's underneath.

I've never tried an FDL yet, maybe in Beta 1.5 I should give it a go. I don't normally fly pure combat ships though as I'm pretty useless
at combat.

It may simply have been due to lag. I've seen some weird stuff in combat zones due to lag. One minute your shields are full, a second later the server seems to catch up and your shields are down and hull damaged.

recently i have been interdicted by some very powerfull npcs - anacondas and pythons.
i only fly an asp so it was scary - never been interdicted by those big ships before.
federal gunships and clippers have been the biggest up until recently.

Bob's yer uncle.

Lots of good advice and information here, thank you all. I was too dense (and shocked!) to examine the death screen for who got me. Yes it does feel vulnerable flying around in a type 6, I usually just use it for mining. Which brings up a good point here. Shouldn't we be able to transfer cargo to one of our other ships at a station?? I end up with a lot of metal cargo after mining, and would MUCH prefer to shop it around in my Asp, which is far better protected. I mean, they could charge a transfer fee or something, which would be realistic. Hopefully this option will be included in a future update?

Thanks for the tips about what to look for on radar, etc. I'm definitely still learning here. And yeah, it's Elite Dangerous and all, and all part of the game to lose space battles... But if CMDrs enjoy just instantly blowing up other CMDRs, then I guess I'll go into solo when forced to fly my mining products around in a type 6... I mean, at least they could give me a chance to share the wealth instead of just blowing me out of the sky....

This is is why, even when I'm pirate hunting, I only go after NPCs. Humans against automatons, I always say...;)

A tip I'd offer is when trying to ascertain what is happening around you in SC to always be adjusting the scanner range. It can be pretty useless by default in SC as it trys to put all the system stars in. I chuck the range to minimum to get an idea about the ships in my immediate surroundings as I find it more useful. Be aware that the range tends to adjust itself automatically as well. I also find that changing the range from logarithmic to linear in the settings can be a help at times. Also spin around and get the planets showing across the radar instead of in a vertical line to better see if someone is trying to get behind you. Hopefully that makes a bit of sense as I am deep in end of night wine territory now.
