what happened to audio?

Ok, so there is room for improvement. Apparently most of the devs who worked on PC1 did not work on PC2 resulting in a mess of a game. But, they are trying their best to fix it with free updates every month. The kerb toggle is coming this month, as well as security guards and Sci-Fi theming. If we make enough noise, they will listen to us.

still, the systems and coding stays with frontier. its not like the dev team of the first game deleted everything and left the planco 2 team with nothing to start with. its just another one of those aspects where they could have taken the first game, improved and build upon that. but no, its gotten even worse than the first game. the screams on the rides sound so cheesy, goofy, horrible and unrealistic. i just hope they come back to work on this too but i highly doubt it.

The sounds where Frontiers strong suit back in the day. That also goes for Planet Zoo. Lately, the sound quality has declined. I think it's because of their financial situations. Layoffs, so there are now maybe less expirienced people at work and they cut corners in time and quality.

As someone for whom sound is extremly important, I am mourning with you about how things are right now.

ill just leave this here:

especially interesting is around the 30 minute mark.
i just dont know what they did to the audio with planco 2. feels like a step back somehow compared to the sounds in planco 1. tbh even the background coaster sounds in the menu sound better than the actual ones ingame :/
any chances we see an improvement here in the future?
Wouldnt it be so cool to get these behind the scenes dev vlogs again!

It would really help us see why they have chosen to do the things the way they have.

Maybe the first game is more polished, but it had several years of updates and DLC packs. It's not being updated anymore. No working water slides and pools. But, it has a lot of things that are missing in PC2 like scenery, building pieces, flat rides, tracked rides, and more. Both games feel incomplete at this point. RCT1 has stuff that 2 doesn't have yet, and 2 has stuff that 1 will never have.

Of course. But the topic was "audo". And better audio is not something that will be redone or added later. It is part of the base of the game. So no matter how many updates we get, the nase of the game will be the same. I think it's justified to name the quality drop here and demand better for whatever future.

ive just started up planco 1 again to have a look around my old park. and i have to say im speechless at how bad the sound design seems in the new game compared to the old one. simply turning your back to a speaker triggers a very realistic sounding muffling effect. having walls between you and the speaker is also something that somehow worked and muffled the audio. having audio speakers in a building created some kind of hall effect. the launch tracks had a much more realistic and dynamic sound. and overall the sound seems to much more wider and "bassy", while in planco 2 it seems to sounds just super flat with no depth at all. i realy wish frontier could take some time in the future to maybe rework how the audio works in planco 2 and improve on it :)

ive just noticed that since the new update we had a change made to audio, unfortunately it isnt a good one in my opinion.
audio overall doesnt seem to have changed, so we still lack any kind of "realism" in the audio aspect of the game. i again refer to the video above ive linked where the devs actually explained and showed realy well how they did their audio mixdowns. just to give and example: At 1:27:06 they are explaining how the camera position had a very serious impact on how sounds in the space around it were being treated. in planco 1 simply turning your back against an audio source would create that muffled effect, an effect that was even more noticeable when we had walls or other pieces placed between us and the audio source.
so in this regards it seems like nothing has changed at all.
now the new "update" to the audio made by frontier in last update is that they added what seems like a new background noise track. and dont get me wrong this is great to add more atmosphere to the overall sound experience, especially when viewing the park from more far or above etc.
however when paying attention to that "background noise" track/channel, one quickly notices how its basically just the same 5-8 second audio loop repeating itself nonstop...
so yeah, basically you didnt improve anything but simply decreased overall audio experience because now i have to keep listening to the exact same loop of guest noises and screams. and it appears to be only this one single audio clip, so no variation at all.

please frontier, go back to the drawing board and try to come up with something else than simple short audio loops.

I wanted a sequel to be better than the first game, not worse. I wanted PC2 to be more like Zoo which I don't have but heard was better than PC1. Is PC2 a step backwards from Zoo and PC1 right now?
