What happened to conflict zones?

After been away for a few years and now when I returned, I noticed when trying to complete my massacre mission, after killed 4 - 6 ships, all enemies leaves and then I am forced to log out and in again for them to respawn, or leave the conflict zone and go back in. Having a mission that require me to kill 74 ships, leads to me log out and in again many times almost 10 times, and this really sucks. This ruin the experience for me by a lot. I know there are more ships in higher levels of conflict zones but mostly all ships in there are Elite and have unlimited shafflaunchers with almost no cooldown at all and takes 5 minutes to kill one ship.

I haven't been in a CZ since a while before the gold rush started, but didn't see this. It might be a new bug introduced with today's update. What kind of CZ are you trying (I mostly do high)?

They did say that they'd been away for a few years...

Killing 4-6 ships sounds like a Low CZ, which, of course, a player only needs to leave, then re-enter a few seconds later, to reset the CZ and play once more.

Completing a wing massacre mission is considerably faster if one is playing as part of a wing, with the added bonus that wing mates can take a similar mission to share and each kill counts for each shared mission - up to 4 times the earnings too.

Basically this 👆

A low CZ will finish after the 6th kill (total kills for one side, if you use SFL and it get killed it will count for the other side so carefully - i've lost CZ due to letting my SLF get killed way too often)
Way more kills are needed for Medium and High CZ

This was changed in Beyond 3.3 (in late 2018) so I guess it has been quite a while since you've tried a CZ. It was part of a wider set of changes to extend and rebalance the gameplay around faction conflicts, by changing the CZs from an endless wave of ships to distinct scenarios where winning the scenarios also contributes significantly to war progress (and, in the medium and high versions, adding additional side objectives involving more powerful ships). Similar scenarios - not necessarily just wartime ones - were added around installations and megaships.

The mission sizes are very much balanced around someone who is doing CZs all day to try to win the war (and therefore wants to finish and restart them often to stack up the scenario completion bonuses as well); if you want something more like the old CZs but still want to take large-scale massacre missions, then pirate massacre missions and a good RES or compromised nav beacon still work as they used to, and the pirates are a lot softer than CZ targets.

imagine picking mission with 74 npcs to kill

I usually pick wing massacre missions requiring 72 kills.
But i usually do them in a Corvette with SLF, lots of firepower and lots of shields - and no, i dont waste my time with the likes of Enemy Captain
I target eagles, asps and already damaged enemy ships so it goes quite fast

it's still inefficient if you're stacking missions. and if you don't stack missions, it's inefficient. ;)

Yeah, generally this is how I see CZs after the change a few years back:

Low- you've a quick half hour of gaming or you want something quick and easy before doing something else (or you're just learning/ testing a new build).

Medium: Take around 10- 15 minutes and should suit most medium ship builds. Watch out for spec ops as the FdLs especially can hurt, but otherwise a good balance between fun and time.

High: These can take a while so ammo can be a concern unless you're in a big ship or you're happy with resynthing mid fight. Otherwise you might want to consider plasma slug or laser based builds. Good fun if you want longer fight and the potential for capital ships dropping in if Federation or Imperial factions are involved are a nice addition.

By the time I would shoot the 50th the mission would time out. This stuff used to clog my mission board all the time. It was never worth doing. There was never enough time doing it. But they took up all the space where much more useful missions could have been. I had them often up to 90 targets. Barely any in the dozen range - always at least several dozen.

Also, focus on Vipers IIIs, Eagles, Vultures and such.
