What happened to realism?

Why can you ram a docking pad and see no damage to you or the dock? Why do we see no costs for the damages we do?
Since when do authorities fine you 10% for your illicit cargo and then not confiscate the illegal goods? Minor cost of doing business?
Why can you fire on a starbase/outpost, even accidentally, and still dock shortly thereafter, with full access to all services?
Why are ships not impounded by allied outposts/systems for unpaid fines?

Where's the realism?

This ain't the REAL world. It's a game.

Realism is a double edged sword.

You want to sit for hours while they load/unload cargo or fuel your ship? Nope, didn't think so ;)

I do think they made the best space sim , but I agree the small changes like easy docking and raming nerf are a shame. the game need to be unforgiving and cruel

Since when do authorities fine you 10% for your illicit cargo and then not confiscate the illegal goods? Barely noticeable cost of doing business?

Why are criminal records temporary? Why can they be paid off?

Where's the realism?

Lots of modern day gamers cannot accept challenge or losing things, so Frontier kept such things out.

That's a little bit sadist of you really. In the age of arcade games where lives cost money, they were set up to be crazy hard, I am pretty glad we have moved past that in terms of modern game design.

Realism went out the door at the very begining with 1000c speeds and Internet MMO forced acceleration/speed limits. Most all of us have come to accept these things for the sake of gameplay. I wouldn't worry about realism so much at this point.

"It's a game" doesn't cover it here, especially in a game that goes to such lengths to give us realism in motion and flight.

Yeah, this what a flight simulation is for. In case of ED, some kind of space flight simulation.

*You could try to ask some guys on the MSFS or X-Plane forum where the terrorists settings are because they would give the game some small kind of realism.

I wouldn't mind a delay for cargo/fuel if it came with something to do in the meantime other than read the news.

it went out the door with PP.

Since playing ED I've decided I want, I need, to be an astronaut. The wife thinks aged 42 it's a bit late for this kind of career change, but what would she know, she's a girl. So I've sent my cv off to NASA and expect I'll get invited to interview very soon. After that its a done deal.

Anyway, back on topic. As far as I know ED is totally realistic and I'll be very disappointed (with potential legal ramifications for FD) if it turns out being a 'real' astronaut is in any way different to how FD have led me to believe.

This looks fun, but I bet we would have way less players if ED was like that.

I wouldn't mind a slightly less complicated optional version of that if FD ever got some spare time to add it in, without taking away staff from more important parts of the game that is. Something like a setting in the options that was Classic or Advanced Cockpit, which defaulted to classic - how it is now.

Why can you come back to life and carry on playing after you die? Why don't you get arrested for crimes and have to spend 40 years in real time in some prison station! Damn this lack of realism! :D
