What happened to the audio?

So recently I've been watching old fashioned PvP courtesy of CMDR Rhea and she was on version 1.2. I noticed that when she gets rammed you can hear the structure scratching and it sounds amazing compared to the nearly null sound that we have today, also when her shields go down you can hear the shells hitting the hull (Kinda like popcorn but still awesome).

So I ask what happened? Why it got changed if it was so good? Is there a technical reason? Is it a bug? Because I want those sounds

PD: I'm a console peasant so I'm not fully aware of what happened prior to XB1 release.

The videos I'm talking about:

Skip to around 1:30 and to 2:30 for when the shields drop

Dude there is a link to a specific time thing on youtube. If you want feedback figure that out as people are not going to spend 12 minutes to listen to an audio file to then sit around and listen to another long video to compare.

Hit "share" and it should give an option to link to a specific time frame.

I Didn't knew how they do that lol thanks

Yeah no problem, I hope you get some feedback. Obviously audio is one of the better features for elite and having swapped audio devices recently it is going to be hard for me to give specific feed back.

Oh yeah I agree it's awesome and it was even better so I'm really intrigued by what happened to this as those sound effects are completely gone now

Without a doubt the sound as a whole has got progressively better with each update, unfortunately the changes also resulted in some amazing sounds to either vanish or get extremely toned down. I can only guess it is a combination of optimizations and the devs choosing to make certain sounds more subtle.

For me personally, late beta and gamma had the best sounds, the first major patch started to radically change things. I can't really complain tho, the sounds in this game surpassed anything I had expected.

The main changes I have never been happy with -

Dropping out of warp at the star used to sound and feel like an epic event (The low end was removed)
The way the ships used to grown when under stress (Toned down, in some cases completely missing now)
Hearing a Viper or any other ship blast by you at close range (majorly toned down)

Yes very odd. This is how it sounds now (i.e. no sound at all):

0:05 to 0:08

Yes. It used to be better. Grittier, and more chaotic. But I think it sounded like garbage on monitor speakers, hence the current clearer but less dramatic soundscape.

Coming from beta, my first impression was "huh, the sound is a lot worse! hope it will be better in release".
Seeing that a lot of sounds are missing there (in beta), it seems they are indeed fiddling with sound...

i got this too in main game, they blamed it on my graphics card being like 100 points below minimal requirement for HORIZONS (aka on planet, yet this happens in deep space for me), since then i didnt bother responding to ticket
