What happened to the Imperial Courier?

Elite: Frontier practically sold itself to me on the basis that I could have one of those. Make no mistake, I'm very impressed with the Ship roster as it stands, it's more than they promised, it's just... I loved that ship. Any news on it? Anything?

It is docked

What was the Courier became the Clipper. The Courier we have now is an awesome little fighter. The Clipper is the big, fast, powerful ship the old Courier was.

I understand where the confusion is coming from.
The current courier does not very much resemble the versions we saw in previous games.
I don't mind.

I didn't even realise that ship was named "Courier" - shows how much I pay attention. Although the resemblances are apparent i.e. the nacelles, in my minds eyes, its just not what I imagined it to be. Never mind. False Alarm. It is what it is.

I'll just have to remember the "Couriers" glory days when it was pretty much THE ship of the line.

It's quite confusing at first, but basically the old Courier is now the Clipper and the old Imperial Eagle is now the Courier.

But frankly, the Clipper does hold true to much of the old Couriers greatness. It does what it's good at very well.

Thanks for the picture, I've never realized how much this tiny ship is big compared to a human ;D

One day... it will be mine... (still serf at empire rank ;( )

Sadly it seems the developers have decided to bin the classic design so many of us loved and bought the game hoping to see and fly. While the new ships are great in their own right they are not the courier we fell in love with.

Oh..this blasphemy explains why on other day when I faced Imperial Courier on my Cobra Mk3 and shot it to pieces very easy and very fast, was kinda disapointed because I still remember how bad ass it once were, why Braben, oh why?

Yea I don't understand this. It's his game. It's his meta. Why has he thrown most of it out of a window and changed so many things?

They probably changed it because it was an Apex predator. It's a Python sized ship that's far deadlier. They nerfed the Python because it was too OP. If they'd added in the Courier as it originally was, it'd have been 2 to 3 times more effective than a Pre-Nerf Python.

That's why you put them behind giant time sink walls. Make it require the rank of king and cost 800 million credits. I don't understand this fear of having a ship be incredibly powerful. I don't understand why there can't be "the" ship to rule them all for a particular aspect. The Cutter is the trader to rule them all at the moment. So why not have that for combat ships?

What's wrong with having End-game uber ships? Seems like too many people are caught up worrying about how to properly balance things that really don't need to be balanced. So the Imperials get some amazing OP super ship, big deal. Copy the stats, change the hull to something that resembles an oversized vulture and name it the "Federal Cookie Cutter". I call that balance. /s

Certain ships should be OP as hell when compared to other ships. The FDL should be able to cut up a python because the python is a multirole. That makes sense to me. I wouldn't have seen anything wrong with the Courier being an apex predator if it was placed behind an appropriately ridiculous time sink. You reading this Braben? :p (probably not)
