Newcomer / Intro what happened to the npc pirates in the frontier systems?

I haven't played much lately but noticed the NPCs in the outer frontier systems that interdicted explorers have been removed? Does anyone know why?

Probably because it made no sense - an Eagle 150 LY out without a fuel scoop hoping to interdict an occasional explorer without any cargo. :) While I like my AI life-like, it doesn't need to simulate a stupid griefer. :)

I actually saw an NPC T6 once out at Maia travelling merrily around in SC between a system's two stars. Still don't know what it was doing there, maybe it was prey for the NPC pirates.

Maia is one of the stars in the Pleiades.

There used to be random, psychotic NPCs in the borderlands around the civilized bubble. Explorers, who are poorly armed by design to improve jump range, were at a severe disadvantage going out and coming in. It used to make those trips... interesting. I have a fairly big fuel scoop on my ASP so I would make the run in fast, scoop, and then run, and hope to get interdicted by only one or two.

It was especially bad after 1.1, but after 1.2 they seem to have all vanished. My guess is they took them out because (a) there were complaints, and (b) they didn't want to punish people who played as explorers. Occasionally someone would be in the black for weeks and get blown up a few systems short of home. That didn't leave happy player.s

I lot of people complained it made no sense. They were right, of course, but I sort of miss them. Well, a little. Just a tiny amount.
