Newcomer / Intro What happens if I get disconnected while I'm in deep space?

Hi everyone, I'm new to Elite Dangerous. I was out in Deep Space and I got disconnected from the server due to Maintenance. What happens to my ship when that happens, will I just re-spawn at the last space port or does it count as the ship being destroyed?

Nothing.

You will reload where you were (but not in frameshift). Many people spend days weeks or months exploring away from where there are stations, providing you don't log out in an asteroid field or somewhere dangerous, you will find yourself more or less where you logged off (or disconnected).

Yep. You'll start again in normal space at the last save point, your last hyperspace or supercruise drop. One reason not to get too upset, if sometimes dropping out of SC takes a couple of seconds.

If you could only safely log out when docked, how do you think people who explore for several months at a time get on? :) As others said, you can safely log out while flying. That being said, to be absolutely safe I'd probably opt to log out while at least a few dozen LS away from the nearest body. Still, I've logged out in the middle of asteroid fields and never had a problem, so that's just me being cautious when it's possible.

Don't worry about your ship, everything should be fine when you relog.

I didn't even know people explore space for months at a time in this game. Sounds very exciting. It's good to know. Can they use their hyperjump drive if they're exploring uninhabitted areas or do they need to use Supercruise?

To be exact: a few dozen LS away from any ORBITAL LINES of bodies. While we are busy doing other things the celestial bodies keep moving. You don't want them to be where you are when you log on. ;)
