What happens if you get too close to a planet?

In normal space, not SC. I am on my way to the Black hole in Mintaka, enroute I found a system with a tiny earth like world called 'Sanssouci' decided to take a close up look with the DK2, it looks absolutely breathtaking. Will the ship explode if I get too close? flying a T9 and would rather not get a 4million insurance bill :/

Edit - Just got a msg saying 'Body Exclusion Zone hit' is that an invisible barrier?

I guess pics really can't do this DK2 justice..

Won't explode, see my nearest approach (351km from surface).

Can you remember if you got the warning message? 'Body Exclusion Zone hit'

the devs sometimes change stuff without commenting, back in Beta the patch lists seemed to be huge with a lot of detail. now it seems vague. am not so much worried about the insurance, crashing and getting sent back to my last dock would be worse.

Cheers

Stop making me want a Rift. >:|

It's awesome standing up and looking down at an Earth like world in the DK2, been here for a while now spotting islands and mountain ranges. I guess I am easily pleased, I couldn't get bored doing stuff like this.. am floating in a massive space ship above a planet :)

No, don't remember seeing such message... then again, I was watching the scenery (HUD off, noticed the distance when switched HUD back on), not messages (that planet has two ringed neighbors just couple Ls afar).

You get the message 'Body Exclusion Zone Hit' and hit an invisible barrier. The ship won't move any further toward the planet, but won't bounce off or sustain damage as if you'd hit a station wall.

What happens if you are travelling 1000c or something mental in SC and veer into the path of a planet at the last moment? :)

You get yanked out of SC into "normal space" rather absurdly and take some hull damage. That's about it. Although being that near a planet in the first place, you'd not be able to soar that fast anyhow.

Don't you still get the 'emergency stop' treatment?! Done that a few times (just as well, saved me smashing into something big and solid).

Depends which planet actually.

I flew too close to one by mistake and seemed to enter a thick atmosphere.

Soon after I saw a dessert type purple ground and I actually then crashed on it.

I was was able to get out and walk around and eventually found a cave opening.

I went into the opening to find a little yoga- type creature who offered me a mission.

He wanted me to go to Earth and enter the bulletin boards and write something absolutely hilarious on the ED forum.

I declined.

Sorry, been a long day.

Well, I for one completely believe you. :)
