The upshot seems to be, that its an absolutely miserable idea to pick a power unless you want to and have the time to grind the ladder to the kind of reward that would make it worth while to be considered cannon fodder in nine tenth of inhabited space.
If you're a trader who relies on moving wherever the best trades are, you couldn't make a worse mistake than getting involved with the new soap?
If that is so, I must say, there should be a pretty big warning label on the package of PP...
If I had been a person fond of soaps and ladders, I might have inadvertently messed up my game play really badly.
It seems, it could cost you millions for insurance before you can extricate yourself from this by defecting, or you'd have to fly really cheap ships for what length of time?

I removed my pledge and went back solo with no ill effects - i wasn't even attacked by former "brothers" at any time.
