What happens if you sign out of the game when you're not docked in a station?

Since the game runs in real time constantly, I was wondering in case I need to leave the game for something important and don't have time to go into super cruise to dock at the nearest station. Do you just respawn in the last place you docked like when you die?

You just start back where you signed off, you don't get reset anywhere. If you log off while in super cruise you will log back in in normal space, somewhere very near to the point you were when you logged off.
