What happens to completed missions?

Hi

I know when CGs finish, if you do not hand them in, after a time (6 weeks iirc but not sure) you get credited for them.

I had a bunch of missions, Kill x scouts and a few kill x interceptors which i had taken on and ultimately completed. At this point the timer is removed and so I assumed I was in no rush to hand them in (becasue i could not be bothered going back to where i got them).

over the last few days however they have dissapeared. not sure if i got a failure state, if they were cancelled with no money but no loss of rep either way......... OR if the missions just auto pay out the cash pay.

just wondering if anyone here knows.

Thanks

Mike.

I don't think regular missions have an auto-payout like CGs. Are you sure the timer stops before handing them in?

They could also have been lost during the patch. It's usually not a good idea to have unfinished missions when there's an update.

Hi

thanks for the reply. So the timer dissapears for sure and i did keep them visible for longer than the timer would have failed on had it kept running.

as for the patch...... good suggestion however they dissapeared before the patch and happened over a number of days. (probably each mission hit a set time state after completion and dissapeared, presumably because i completed each mission at different times.

i am guessing there IS an invisible timer there, but 1) dont know how long it is and 2) dunno what happens once that timer runs out. (failure state, just wiped or pays out in background)

I can only assume that when taking any missions, the time to complete said missions is listed on the info provided. I'v always thought (assumed) that this time is not only for doing the missions, but also returning to the place of issue to complete the mission by handing them in.
The timers have likely expired & like messages in your communication tab, have a number of days before they expire & are auto deleted.......suprised there wasn't a fine/loss in rep for those failed missions.

there was a comment from the devs ones ... i think after 2 weekly updates missions not handed in vanish. iirc @Northpin commented on that once.

Hi there,

For technical reasons missions expire 7 days after date of issue. Usually this is not an issue that directly affects players, as missions tend to have failure timers shorter than this and people tend to hand them in soon after completion, but I'm sorry you've been caught out by an edge case here (Looks like Massacre type missions don't visibly display a timer after you've completed the active portion of the mission).

I'll bring this up with missions design and see if we might be better off signposting this better in future.

Thanks,
Dom

(p.s. There are exceptions to the 7 day rule in place for a small group of mission templates such as the long distance tourism and ruins missions. For these missions there is still an upper limit but is a little longer)
there it is.

Sometimes reasons are rubbish reasons then.
regardless of the reasons the fact is once the timer is removed , with no in game information it's logical to assume the timer IS removed much like bounty claims are indefinite .
imo this is an issue with the game not the CMDR.

my reason I would not say was rubbish. the way the thargoid missions work the mission givers just want dead thargoids they do not care where from and it's over a huge region of space. I was just taking them up whenever I docked with a view to handing in once I was in the region again (there are.... 8 I think different thargoid mini bubbles so sooner or later would be back).
My thargoid hunter jump range is terrible so it would take significant time to go out of my way to hand the missions in , so with no info to the contrary it seemed the obvious way to do these missions.

7 days is sensible. For thargoid missions, if you're waiting longer than that you're taking the chance that the station you got them from will end up abandoned and you won't be able to turn them in anyway. You're also harming the war effort by not turning them in and contributing to the system's progress before the weekly reset.

perhaps................. but there is no warning of the 7 days, the only reason you know about that is because of out of game stuff. My issue wasnt with the timer, it was with no warning about it and the missions just getting lost in between gaming sessions. (note am not that bothered about it even so, its less than 50mil which is not that much in the grand scheme........... but imo it should be fixed with either a timer or a warning on taking on the mission)..... like i said, bounties and combat bonds dont act this way so why would a player assume missions do once the timer is removed?.

One of elites biggest issues (imo) is its assumption that players will use out of game tools and info sites to get the info they need......

Bounties and combat bonds aren't tied to specific locations and can be redeemed anywhere. Missions are dependent on their tied location staying accessible which isn't always guaranteed for a variety of reasons, and once a mission is flagged as completed you lose the option to abandon/discard it... so there needs to be a way for the game to clean them up and get them out of the player's transactions.
