What happens to your crew when you change ships?

On the weekend, I got to Rear-Admiral, bought and outfitted a Corvette, complete with SLF and I hired a pilot to fly it. Had some fun bounty hunting in a Hi-Res in one of my home systems, then noticed that my old Asp was there. I hadn't flown it since DW1, so I switched and went on a small exploration jaunt.
Then I realised that I never "deactivated" (or whatever you call it) my crew. After hiring her, I had to set her as "active" so I guess you can deactivate a crew member without firing them, but I didn't.
So is she going to get a cut of my exploration rewards for sitting on my Asp doing nothing, or is she languishing back aboard my Corvette in storage, wondering why I turned off the life support and why it's so dark in there?

She is sitting waiting in every star port you land at, and will continue to take her cut of your earnings while sipping Martini and watching the Dancing Boys

She's in the mysterious undisclosed location of the 'Crew Lounge', living it up on 10%(?) of all your earnings. It's a good life as inactive crew :)

Well at least she isn't making a mess aboard my brand new Corvette, eating all my food and drinking my whisky.
But then, since I'm paying her so much, she could at least provide a maid service while I'm away.

The wacky thing is that they MUST be aboard your ship, somewhere, or they wouldn't be available for duty when you arrive at a station and swap to an SLF-capable ship.

And yet, they don't die if your ship is destroyed while they're hiding somewhere aboard and they can't be called to duty in-flight.

If the NPC Crew Quarters are made of some kind of indestructible material (presumably the same stuff a flight recorder is made of), I want a ship built entirely from the same material.

But oddly they won't get on your sh..... Oh don't get me started.

Every time you swap into a ship that doesn't have SLF you need to remember to reset your pilot to active or when you get back in your SLF capable ship they'll just stay sitting in the starport.

Despite following you wherever and however far you go in between. Which kinda implies they came with you on your ship. Yes the same ship they aren't in when you want them to be in it.

How many did you fire before finding one that looked half way human? Be honest.

This is only the 2nd time I've hired crew. Ages ago when I bought a FGS, I tried a SLF with crew, but he looked shifty So I fired him immediately when I got back to port.
This one's kinda cute, and already something like 70% to Expert. She's a keeper. [heart]

Beware of updates. Mine was "kinda cute" (for electrons) unto Holo-Me came out, then she turned into a proper munter. Think Jimmy Hill in a blonde wig.

Options may vary.
I think they go with you in all your trips. But since they dont do anything on your ship, not even use a seat, they probably end in some cargo compartment, sitting on the floor. Alone, until you switch to a ship with SLF. In which you sent them to some obscure part of your vessel where they sit in the most unsecure place to command remotely your SLF, because you are an a**hole that do not let them use the bridge to do their jobs. Neither grant them some minimal life support system in case of emergency. You get to be ejected in your seat into a capsule in space until you are rescued. They dont have that luxury, they stay there until the ship blows up. So, I think its pretty fair they get money always and zip from your account periodically. They basically have the most dangerous work in space.
They probably even sing some similar tune as the space marines in 40k.

What is our duty?!
To fly and to die!
What is death?!
The end of our duty!

So, shut up and given them money.

Fire her before you go to cartograhics. They get their cut when you actually get paid.

Forget to fire my npc pilot before going on 50k LY, 2 month journey into the dark. Gave her the pink slip when I got back, but did buy her a whiskey.

They climb into the same magical bag of holding that stores all your materials but is small enough to fit inside an SRV and sturdy enough to survive the destruction of anything. I've yet to find Gallifrey in the ED galaxy map but it must be out there somewhere given how much of their technology we employ.
