ok so i am wondering what ship has more overall firepower the lance or the clipper

On Paper it's probably the FDL.
Rule of Thumb:
Each Class of weapon is the same as 2 of a lower class.
So Clipper has 2 Large and 2 mediums or equiv. to 6 mediums.
FDL has 1 Huge (4 mediums worth) and the other 4 weapons, so it's the winner on paper.
FDL has also better shields and has Masslol on anything but the Conda..which is great for finishing NPCs.
I would still pick the clipper though, as I prefer multi-role ships, and 2 gimballed large beams > 1 huge fixed cannon or Plasma, plus it's a style thing, Clipper is the prettiest ship in the game imho.

ya i am in a python atm but i notice its very slow for combat so going from point a to b in a res or combat zone or staying on vipers running is a pain but the firepower is great

Of the two, I would go with the Clipper - but be warned it does have weaker shields than the FdL.
But as a multirole ship its more versatile and can accommodate a wide range of activities and play styles.
The FdL looks great and is obviously combat-oriented.
I skipped both and went for a Python. Its a bit of a learning experience (lesser agility) but its high melt-your-face value (3 large, 2 medium guns) overcomes all but the fastest opponents (PvE in a RES or CZ).

I thought I read a while ago that was 1.5x the firepower of -1 class below?
