01 - phong - Another day,another dimension

The ship drifted silently in the darkness, engulfed in the cloak of night. The crowd of dignitaries gathered on the bridge,a motley collection of politicos, scientists and military, watched expectantly as the small crew of radio and telemetry engineers made their final adjustments or consulted in hushed and incomprehensible terms and zero hour approached.Eventualy the static hiss was replaced by a signal, weak at first then growing stronger, finally resolving into the melodious tones of Psychokow.
The screams continued long into the night, and the Alternate Reality Shadow Executive was disbanded the next day,all records expunged.Except one.

02 - Commander Sir Samuel Vimes - Perseverance

Impossible, nobody has heard a peep for over 1500 years they said.
But here he was deep in the black after months of travelling, probably further from a star than anyone had been since they invented hyperdrive but still less than 10 light years from sol.

Finally
It was right where his calculations said it should be but there were variables after such a length of time.

He scanned and scooped it up, finally the legendary piece of history was in his hold. He rubbed the nameplate, he had to be sure. As the dirt wiped away he read.

Voyager

03 - Frank - Of course it's the last place you look. Why would you keep looking after you found it?

Old man Frank looked high and low but couldn't find it anywhere.

He asked funny Psykokow "have you seen my thing?", but he just smirked.

He asked clever Yaffle, who just shook his head and walked away in disgust.

He asked angry Listeri69 "have you seen my thing?", but he shouted back "I don't want to see your thing!"

Young Phong chuckled and pointed. "That thing there? On the top of your head?"

Frank felt the top of his head and exclaimed with astonishment "Why! it was there all this time."

Everyone laughed. "What a stupid place to keep it."

04 - Listeri69 - A Nice Mug Of...

'Ah Michelle just the person, I seemed to have misplaced my favourite mug, the one I got from my niece with GALAXIES BEST UNCLE on it'

'Your highness you used that mug on ze Postman yesterday. You said "I warned you! Post at 9am or else!" then you made him eat it, i say eat it what you actually did was hold it in his mouth whilst you hammered it in with another mug'

'That will explain this memo I got from Minerva saying 'We found your mug in a stool, do you want me to clean and glue it?'.

05 - Alien - The Moral Of The Story is, Write Your Own Drabble.

T'was the night of the drabble show
And Hankey made haste
He couldn't write a good drabble
So used copy and paste

The Drabblers were watching
As Psykokow read them out
Then he read Hankey's drabble
And Alien did shout

"That drabble is familiar,
I've seen it before
If you care to examine,
it looks like drabble four."

The votes were all cast
And Hankey took an early lead
Despite tying for second
Yet he did not succeed

So actually Alien's drabble won
if you add on Hankey's
But copy and paste doesn't win the crown
Or even a technicality

06 - moose666 - g New Guy

The Sergeant dug through his supply box, occasionally some random item would fly out.
"I'm sure we still have some, it will take a few weeks for command to... AHA"
He emerged, clutching a handbook, and handed it to the waiting private.
"There, the FNG guide to the Farragut, enjoy!"

The private opened a random page, and began to read.

ACCESS CONTROL

Most areas are access with a standard G-swipe, the crew quarters will need a B-swipe, engineering and hydroponics necessitate an E-swipe,
the bridge and high security areas require an X-swipe, and for the bathroom, don't forget your R-swipe.

07 - TaoZero5 - The Other History Of The Pilot's Federation

"Honest, Officer, it was just floating about . . . nobody around for hundreds of Light-Seconds . . . Was I supposed to just leave it there?"
"It's tagged 'stolen', Cmdr James Song. Is that your name?"
"People don't just eject 25 tons of Paladium for no reason; and this isn't the first time we've stopped you with 'dubious cargo'."
The other Officer grinned and said, "I'll bet he's got a base in this system. On a nearby planet, maybe? Do you think they should rename this system Finders System?"
"Nah, Colin!" said the first, "Shinrarta Dezhra has a bit of poetry - a bit of mystery."

08 - Entarius Fusion - Gravity Sucks

The Scanner clicked and whirred, popped and pinged and the tone was getting more excited as the SRV Grew closer to its target.
The SRV sped up the slope on Ross444 and then crested over the side and began to pick up speed.
t'was a split second before the driver knew he had driven over the edge of a sheer cliff.
The 3.8G world pulled hard on the SRV as it continued to make the 2km drop into the crater below.
The scanner was even louder until the mighty explosion the SRV made as it hit the bottom. Found it!

09 - RoyalHankey - Psykokow's lost mug.

Psykokow lost his most valuable asset.
His Hutton Orbital Golden mug
He last saw it in his lounge.
He asked Simoof if he seen it
Simoof said 'Yes'
Psykokow replied 'Where, where'
Simoof said 'I took it to the antique dealer.
'Which one' Psykokow replied
Well if you go straight on then make a right turn after the flower shop.
Then straight on again till you reach Aliens Beauty Parlour.
When you reach that turn left then left then right.
When you get to the end of the road take another right and its the third building on the right.

10 - Massey - MY FIRST DRABBLE

Psykokow flipped the switch to the garbage waste disposal, the grinding stopped with an ear splitting screech. “f sake” he muttered under his breath, “I wondered where I’d put it”. He stood and walked over the access panel at the back of the cockpit, twisting the rusty handle the panel door creaked open releasing the foul stench not smelt since the aborted jaunt towards to Jacques station. He rummaged elbows deep in the ground up muck and detritus from the many re-appropriated passengers he’d been liberating. ‘I found it!’ as he lifted the bag of crystalline gold above his head.

11 - insanephoton - Hutton the hard way.

'It's still heading towards Eden.'
'Any chance that it's something natural?'
'Negative, it's decelerating fast, got to be artificial'
'We'd better warn Hutton Orbital'
The scans indicate it's some kind of ship. Nuclear thermal rocket propulsion. Who the hell uses that?...'
'Nobody. It's ancient theoretical tech.'
.Here's something in the archives looks very similar'
'Project Exodus, but it can't be. The records say the project was canned before they finished it.'
'And yet there it is a flipping thousand year old generation ship'
'A thousand years?'
'Yep'
'And I thought it took a long time to make the Hutton run.

12 - FelixBast - The search continues

When the ancient ruins were first discovered, pilots flocked to the planet. They scanned the ruins, obelisks, totems and ancient artefacts on the surface hoping to discover their purpose.
They were unable to solve the puzzle and became disheartened. Attempting to raise their spirits, commanders started racing their SRVs around the site. Some even played ball games with the ancient artefacts.
Deep within the bowels of the planet an alien machine woke up. It watched the antics on the surface, sent a short message to its makers and went back to sleep.
The message was, “Life detected, intelligence not found.”

could you change the name on no 10 from nickel101 to Massey please. I've changed my forum name now thanks!

Flawless victory!

I've looked at them all,
It's so hard to distinguish
The ones that excel
Red out in kow's english

I went back to the text,
To read them some more,
Compare and contrast
To find the real score

Held up to the light,
Took a sniff,gave a shake,
Savoured the texture,
Now which ones a fake?

They're both pretty good,
But one is much better.
If this carries on
You may be a trend setter

I'm excited to say
That i've reached a decision
As this is my choice,
Please dont't treat with derision

Your cause is just, your quest is pure
It's time to show Hankey's drabble the door.
I'm delighted to say,and its worthy of note,
That Alien's drabble just got my vote.

It's been a while since a poem's won, but I do believe Alien's in with a chance this week. I think it's because it's about something she's really passionate. <grin>

I think FelixBast is winning this week ... the lead is uncatchable I think.

17 voters, which is already a good voter turnout. To win now you'd have to stand outside the voting thread, catch unwary forumites that are reading threads adjacent to this one, and force them to vote for you.

2nd place does look like it's on the cards though. It gives you most of the prestige without none of that nasty having-to-think-up-next-week's-topic business.

The problem with that is you'd have to persuade them not to vote for the eventual winner. And what is that on top of your head?

Thank you to everyone who has voted ... I honestly did not think Felixbast could be caught, and while the voting is not over yet (I still have to vote yet), I am amazed at how many votes my drabble has had. You are all awesome.
