What have you done to prepare for the game

Its without any doubt my most expensive game of history :D Thanks to it, I now have 1440p monitor which wasnt enought, so I also have the rift DK2. I finally also have full CH setup, I had only pedals and stick before, now I bought also the throttle. There are some other things I did not do just because of ED, but I now play mostly ED, so I have to put them on the list, like new CPU 4790K+ROG mobo and second 780 to have SLI setup and of course I had to change half of my watercooling setup. That makes some 2500 EUR, no game can beat that :D and I am still looking forward rift CV1.

Heh, I have 3 kids (youngest is 3), so I feel for ya. But that's where my Grado SR80i headphones are good. They are open backed. Really good quality sound (HiFi aficionados shake their heads when they hear I game with it). And as I said, open backed so the sound leaks out like a sieve but the same applies to external sound... You can hear external sounds like kids crying and get to them before the wife wakes!

My largest purchase was the X52PRO from the flightstore.co.uk for a modest £130 incl del.
I also bought the EDTracker parts which was a massive £13 and is easily the best investment for return on immersion!
I also bought Voice Attack $8 but funnily enough, that's the least used even though I bought a nice voice pack for it (£3.50) which actually was great value as they've done loads more responses and default profiles and quite importantly (since I game in the main bedroom and can't actually vocalize commands) lots of key bindings so I can hear nice Computer voice responses to the things ED didn't give a voice response to!

Some other threads have mentioned the improvement in sound with a discrete sound card so considering a further modest £25 on some ASUS Xonar DG which should work well with the Grados as it has an onboard headphone amplifier.
I'm also considering a third screen but with the EDTracker, I'm not sure that's required!

I still haven't tried hooking the PC up to the JVC HD projector which we watch movies on the 84" screen with.... Perhaps one weekend when the whole family is asleep.

Oh and whilst kickstarter backers saved about a fiver over the beta buyers, I also prepped by getting a couple of ship options.
So in the end I spent £25 plus extra ship options for £20 and then £15 for beta.

From the posts on this thread and some people I've spoken to, there is so much nostalgia from 1984 and hopes and dreams being carried behind Elite : Dangerous. TBH if we all had just stopped playing the original and started playing this we'd have been absolutely gobsmacked.

Thanks for the tip about the headphones! The sound is one of the most amazing things about this game so not being able to enjoy it is a real downer. I agree with your final point as well, when I was a kid on the 1984 version, everything happening in gamma now was what was happening in my head back then lol!!

I'm gonna get myself an EDtracker, got the game pre ordered. Just need to get a joystick, thinking the t flight hotas, a new chair and I'm gonna try and get a script set up so I can use my Vestax VCI300 midi controller as well, think the pitch faders would make for decent strafing, plus the buttons light up when you push them. Would mean I could get the keyboard out the way as well.

Was planning on getting a headtracker, or Rift as soon,
as the latter is consumer market ready.

Noted down the market averages of all goods above
1,2k credits per ton, to prepare for the booty boogy.

Bought a new Rig, mainly due to Elite Dangerous (and Star Citizen :D), i7 5802k, 32 gig DDR4, Asus Rog Rampage V Mainboard, Inno3D GTX980 , Samsung 850D SSD 256 GB, PSU: bequiet! Dark Power Pro 10 - 850Watt, CPU cooling: bequiet! Dark Rock Pro 3, Case: Thermaltake Chaser A71, Philips 242G5DJEB Monitor and an Oculus Rift DK2 (ED+DK2=awesome).

Oh, and a Xbox360 Gamepad. Runs smoothly so far :). Just 7 more Days - the Training Demo hardly is enough anymore.

bought a backlit keyboard, cause i´ll be using joystick+keyboard for controls and this game is to be played in the dark. The rig I have already, not so humble, but not high end either

Playing in the dark is bad for your eyes.

Myself, I bought a new mouse, Roccat Savu, for my old one, Steelseries Xai, was multiple times self-repaired and slowly started to break apart. Magically, the new mouse fixed nearly every input bug I had on my system, mouse or joystick, plus it fixed a boot bug of which I didn't even know it was one. So, seriously, if you have some weird bugs, like the system taking long before beeping and setting windows up, or the inputs freaking out after unplugging the X52, then I encourage you trying to use an other mouse. It's likely to fix 'em!

Also, Edtracker, somehow. On the waiting list of the devs currently.

Uncertain about Voice Attack still. With only the combat training for us ordinary pre-orderers to play, I yet have to find love with it.

Thrustmaster T.16000M! Could've used my xBox 360/Windows controller in addition to my X52, but, hands down, how much cooler is the T.16000M than that?

No Grid for me. iPhone 2 won't do that.

E:// That's roughly 120€ on my side, EDtracker and Voice Attack included.
