What HOTAS would you recommend?

Hi all.

Recently I moved to a different country and I had to sell my old X55 rhino. Not only it was difficult to transport, but also many keys started failing in the Thurster control (I had to move the thruster to a position so certain keys and axis would actually work). So, at present, the X55 is not an option for me.

Which one would you recommend me to buy?

Thank you :)

I still like my Thrustmaster t-flight HOTAS X which I've been using since beta and it's still as accurate as the day it came out the box. It is the cheapest and some others have found it not to be as accurate as x55 and the like - maybe I just got a very good one ? It certainly has stood up to the punishment very well and I still think it has the best throttle of any I've tried
They have a newer version now - my old one was ps3 and pc - new is ps4 and pc.
I also have the Thrustmaster T Flight stick x - which is basically the exact same joystick, but with the throttle on the side of the joystick base - this travels with my laptop and gives a pretty good experience also.

Current Hotas - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Thrustmast...883&sr=1-1&keywords=thrustmaster+joystick+ps3
The laptop one - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Thrustmast...906&sr=1-2&keywords=thrustmaster+joystick+ps3
The "newer" ps4 version https://www.amazon.co.uk/Thrustmast...958&sr=1-1&keywords=thrustmaster+joystick+ps4

edit - there seems to be an xbox version now as well - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Thrustmast...r=1-1&keywords=thrustmaster+joystick+ps4&th=1

All that said if mine broke today I think I would be looking at the T 16000M -

Possibly even with the pedals as well - hopefully someone who has used the 16000 kit can give us some feedback, but I have heard only good stuff about it so far.

(and no I'm not being paid by Thrustmaster- but if any company rep's reading feel free to send me free stuff :p )

T160000M with the FWCS throttle.

I’ve got a brand new Warthog sitting in a box as the ‘next step’ for when the T16K fails. But it hasn’t (1000+ hrs).

For Elite i would prefer a stick with a twist-yaw. But it may be a personal preference...

'Beyondingsgate' muahahah...really good!

For the left hand I recommend the keyboard. For the right, t16000.

Edit: The logitech 3d pro is better than the t16000 new because buttons. However, the 3d pro gets drift happy after a few dozen hours, my t16000 has been steadfast over 200 hours or so.

A Warthog together with a TWCS-Throttle.
Had the t16000 first but its doen't have enough buttons. The ones on the base doesn't count, since I need to get one of my hands of the HOTAS, which defeats the purpose of a HOTAS.
Now I have more then enough buttons, even after 'Beyondingsgate'.

Since I'm still using my X55, I guess I'd recommend the X56. I find the knobs on the throttle base work really well for sensors and FSS tuning. And then there's the rotaries on the throttle handle for vertical and lateral movement... I like the thing.

The warthog is fail on arrival due to lack of twist.

T160000M with the FWCS throttle.

Is all the thrill seeker equipment you need. Uber rugged too, play several hours a day seven days a week, had my setup nearly a year, works better than when I got it.

If only, alas, I had my own Server......

I started with an x52 until the pinky switch failed. Then moved to t16000 stick and FWCS throttle. Took time getting used to having only one HAT switch on the stick. If I bought another HOTAS I'd be tempted to try an x52 pro or move up to a warthog and peddles.

How much is your budget ?

My current setup is a VKB Gunfighter with MCG Pro grip, Slaw pedals and a TH TWCS throttle

My brand new Logitech X52 pro came today and I am setting it up. ED recognised it and bound everything for me but I'm doing bit of fine tuning. I have to say I am liking it already. The stick makes flying so easy, very responsive and smooth. The throttle feels just right as well. All of these buttons sliders and hats is going to take a bit of getting use to, I may never need a keyboard and mouse anymore, there is a actual mouse on the throttle. :)

I had one of the old Saitek/MadCatz produced X52 proflights...it behaved perfectly during the year I used it. I went for the X56 once Logitech had taken over after the issues with the X55 and the MadCatz run poor build quility and reliability let it down....shiny button syndrome had me on the X56 as soon as I saw a pic of it [rolleyes]

I'm certainly impressed with the Logitech version of the X56 in the year I've used it...no current issues bar the initially heavy throttle that I modified by stripping the unit after a week of hating it and removing the excess of sticky grease they had in there.

Well I'll probably get shot down for this recommendation, but I HAVE tried all the options available and IMHO they fall short either in build quality, design or ease of use/reliability...... but this rig is a beautiful seamless match-up:

CH Pro Throttle coupled with... wait for it...... an old Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 Joystick (Available second-hand/pre-used/NOS from several online web and auction sites but not usually really cheap! But still cheaper than some of the more recent offerings!)

The MS Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 stick even has the inbuilt force feedback resisting your hand for the feel of the real physical presence of a ship under your right hand (but it does NOT give you any dynamic actual shudder/jink/forces though, because ED does not support such).

This old joystick needs no drivers under Windows 10; it just auto installs and shows up in the devices folder, so don't use the supplied disk (Windows 98 I think, and do NOT buy the earlier sibling stick; the MS Force Feedback 1 (One) ... as it is not USB and it doesn't work in ED)
The stick is easy to set up and bind in Options/Controls within the game, as is the CH Pro Throttle.
The stick does have a throttle quadrant but I now use that for tuning the FSS signal analysis thingy. The stick even has a beautiful yaw on the stick and is hard wearing and a ergonomic delight to use! The build quality is outstanding, heavy and truly 'old school quality'. Looks classy too!

N.B. I do however connect the stick and throttle combo to a powered USB 2.0 hub (The MS SFFB 2 Stick does have it's own dedicated power supply whereas the more modern CH Pro Throttle does not.)

Uhh, that's what flight pedals are for. Used to use twist stick. No thanks now. Will still be using warthog when others have gone through several sticks. Now as for pricing, that is a bit of a sticking point I will admit. I watched for mine to go on sale as a set with the flight pedals included at no additional cost. Keep eyes open might be deals like that now after the holiday season.

Warthog is really solid. cost sucks.

Edit; and VA HCS fill out the control scheme

The 3D pro has one extra button on the crown, which (especially if you use the keyboard on the left hand) can be more than compensated for with a shift key. There are 12 buttons on the base, and despite popular opinion, these are all very viable for mapping to game functions.

Basically, the T.16000M is better in every way than the 3DPro.
