Newcomer / Intro What I learned from rolling a new account

  1. The Sidewinder is a good wee ship, if a bit weak. Treat it right and upgrade it properly, and it's very effective in a RES, if you can keep out of the firing solution of the big ships and know how to fish them so the SYSAUTH vessels join in.
  2. The Sidewinder is totally outclassed when RES farming by almost every other ship a CMDR might take into a RES.
  3. The upgrade ships (Vulture, Fer de Lance) make you lazy.
  4. The advice about RES farming for players in newb ships is sound, if you can keep your shields up. (Video on this topic to come)
  5. Most other players are inconsiderate tools who'll let you do all the hard work then steal your kill.
  6. A2 shields with an A0 shield booster turn the Sidey into an effective battering ram against cheeky tools who steal your kills.

Point 3 is probably the most valid in my eyes. I loved flying the sidewinder, it was challenging and more to the point fun. Moving up to the Vulture or even the Viper and things get a whole lot easier, not any less fun but definitely easier. Once I'm done with exploring I think I'm going to go back to the Sidewinder or Eagle and do some bounty hunting. THe great thing about the Sidewinder is it doesn't really matter if you get blown to bits, it's cheap to replace!

7. While it's possible to take out Anacondas in the Sidewinder (with a little help from the Feds), it takes a long time. Taking on and killing 4 25kcr Cobras is quicker and easier than killing 1 100kcr Anaconda.
