what i think would neet cool and handy

to be able to see were you have been. with like a different color of line if you want to see it.

to be able to plot more than one course without them being deleted if logged out. you would need to manually delete them.

I am trying to future out how to get to Polaris 450 ly away. I cant plot that far is a real pain. when your in the galaxy map try to see were you headed to. it jumps back to were you are. your lost again.

be able to block off a chunk of map and only see that chunk like 20 years up down side ways. with some kind of bearing to were you want to end up.

I think it would help

cheers

long distance travel is a bit of a pain i'll admit, the way around the problem is to lock on to your final destination system in the galaxy map then return to the cockpit and line up with it as if you are about to hyperspace there.

next go to the left hand nav panel and lock on to each system in turn starting with the furthest away until you find one that's in roughly the right direction. when you find a system in the direction you are going hyperspace then repeat the first step, once more locking on to your final destination system.

its not an easy fix, but its the best method i've found of covering long distances.

thanks for the replay.. I not sure what you me by "left hand nav panel and lock on to each system in turn starting with the furthest away"

what do I look for it all just looks the same. nothing is high lighted

when in the cockpit headlook left and you get a popup panel appear, the first tab on this panel is for navigation and lists the planets/suns in the system you are in, followed by a number of systems you can hyperspace too.

the list is arraigned in order of distance starting with the closest at the top of the page, if you scroll to the very end of the list and select that system you get a popup asking if you want to lock destination, lock and hyperdrive or go back.

select lock and then look at your compass (next pic, red arrow pointing to it), if the circle within it is solid blue and close to the center of the cross it means its in roughly the direction you need to go to reach your distant target. the following pic shows a VERY good match but these are few and far between, i find as long as the blue circle isn't too close to the edge that its usually good enough.

before starting a long journey its important to make sure you have a Frame shift drive that is fit for purpose as if you only have the basic starter drive in a ship you wont be able to go far in a single jump. i wouldn't attempt a long distance journey with the drive i have in my current ship, you can see from the pictures that it has a range of under 8 LY so its not really good enough for distance travel.

its also Vital that you have a fuel scoop installed and top off your fuel tank by scooping from a star at every opportunity, there are quite a few star types you cannot scoop from so better safe than sorry as if you run out of fuel your only option is self destruct.
