What i would really like

First of all, i'm a big fan of space sims, this is a great game, not quite up with my favourite yet which is Independence war 2 (edge of chaos), love that game. But this has the potential to surpass that.
I know there are many bugs and glitches that will be ironed out over time, but what I would like to see is a plot route button on the system view.
Many times i will enter the galaxy map and find a system, i like to check it out sometimes before i visit, but when i go back the route is lost (i know i can click select before entering system view, but i shouldn't really have to ) Please let me click system view, then plot route.

Secondly, this has probably been asked / discussed before, When i start the game why cant i select which ship i want to pilot? For those that have several ships, please let me choose which one i want to start in.

Because Frontier apparently has not designed this game for the casual gamer. The game is designed under the philosophy that everything must be earned and the cost must be high.

What do you mean selecting a ship you want to pilot? A choice of the starter ship was a reward for those who have pledged at certain level during KS campaign.

Those who have bought ED from the store start with a Sidewinder. Eagle was later added as a bonus for those who have bought Mercenary edition and the only thing that you should do to change the ship is to fly to the nearest station with a shipyard.

All others start with a Sidewinder.

You need to make your way towards any other ship.

As i mentioned 'for those that have several ships'. Why cant there be a drop box on the start menu so i can select which one of my ships to start in, just to save time having to fly back to a station where one is stored

Basically because that would be a form of 'fast travel' (either the ship coming to you instantly orr you going to the ships location instantly). There is no 'fast travel' in ED by design.
