Title says it all. We know that Patreus loves his ship based on his wiki, and that it is located in Eotienses, if someone decided to get a battlegroup together and attack the ship, would FD do anything about it?
EDIT: We're assuming in this case that what I'm proposing is actually doable. That FD won't throw the ENTIRE imperial navy on us as soon as we target the ship, but rather treat it like a conflict zone, with the reinforcements showing up in waves, albeit bigger waves than even the highest conflict zones. So my real question is, if players did destroy/route the ship, would FD make it a canon event?
I have some ideas of a narrative for it, but after the Gnosis incident I really have lost faith in FD to let a player ran narrative go that far. In any case, here are my ideas:
- Patreus refuses to flee the system and the ship is destroyed, with or without him aboard. A new Admiral of the Fleet is appointed by the emperor and the Empire blames the Federation, even if there is only Imperial pilots (they say it is a false flag op in order to cement legitimacy). Possible war triggered. Depending on whether or not Patreus survived, he is branded a traitor to the empire and exiled, possibly joining the pirates or conspiring with one of the lesser imperial factions.
- Patreus flees the system with his ship intact, he remains the Admiral of the Fleet by bending the facts to his favor, stating that it was a federation attack with dozens of battleships, sparking all out war. This is in line with his character, as he is a power broker and has a history of manipulating the galaxy at large to reach his ends (dismantling the London Treaty in 3302). Only the pilots who flew in the assault know the truth, whether the Pilots Federation does anything about this is up in the air.
- Federal intelligence gets word of it and joins the battle. The federation formally declares war. Patreus can either survive or not, with the previous two scenarios playing out respectively.
- Imperial intelligence gets word of it, and joins the battle, spelling almost certain death for the players. If the players manage to succeed and destroy/route all of the interdictors, the first two scenarios play out respectively.
- Thargoids jump in and ruin the fun again. Whether they destroy Patreus is up in the air, probably depending on an incursion system state. Patreus flees as soon as the Thargoids show up, but remains in the system flanked by interdictors at all times, making him untouchable.
