Powerplay What if merit quotas were earned through missions?

Instead of having to wait hours doing close to nothing, have earning quotas through missions handed from the HQ of the power. Those quotas would stack and you'd be able to bring back a full load after doing enough of them.

The quotas would no longer be static at 10/15/20/25/50 per rating, but instead, the higher rating would allow access to missions that provide bigger cargo quotas. For example, a rating 1 mission would give the user 6-10 available power commodity allocation and a rating 5 would reward 30-60.

This way, fortification, preparation and expansion becomes just as active as undermining, instead of a snoozefest that noone wants to engage because they either have to stay docked for hours end or burn through their cash reserves. Additionally, smaller ratings will finally be able to contribute more if they spend their little free time doing missions and then spending all the allocations they have gathered at the end of the week.

Also, this allows non-combat expansion powers to actually have a chance to expand without having the odds stacked so heavily against them.Ever since the undermine buffs, it is a nightmare for anyone who expands without combat zones to actually manage to expand, with the other end being completely unstoppable. Which is a ridiculous gap.

It also might potentially dissuade 5th collumning ,since players would have to start working towards their merits, instead of keeping rank 5 through hurting the power.

Basically there is loads of ways you could strengthen a community / system and insure it's loyalty. I.e financially and militarily (i.e warding off pirates). The problem is peoples actual playing time. I don't want to dilute powerplay and apologise for earlier posts but how do you make powerplay viable for normal working men and women. Explorations and samples from planets is also a extremely good way of strengthening a system (especially if it is useful / crucial). Also donations. What is missing from power play is (apart from players) is real human response. All I am doing is dumping a load of boxes to s atation and flying off. I get little / no reward for this. Why am I doing this. Because my side wants me to do it. Loads of homeless people have done the same. It is not worth it.

I did include that this could potentially help people like you work more efficiently for the powers of your choice, although I wouldn't expect rating 5 to be achievable even this way. I don't know if this could help you with your feeling of pointlessness doing the fortifications, but surely it would provide you of a more active alternative to earning them. Generally, run errands for the power in order to acquire your commodity allocations. Then you can get over those allocations within a few trips instead of having to spend hours waiting in a station.

I think it could potentially make it easier for people with limited time to acquire merits by helping their power instead of being forced to undermine in order to get any good rating. This way, you are still rewarded based on how much time you have invested for the power, but that time is not based on strict time schedules of waiting 30 minutes for quotas to refresh.

I think its a great idea.

If these missions are in your control system it also gives players who want to guard those systems from underminers something useful to do when there are no enemy players around.
Although it would obviously be better if we simply got merits for protecting our systems.

In addition, it would be nice if those quota missions are from a (minor)faction of your power.
I don't really get why FD kept PP and the BGS so separate.
Seems logical to me sins player groups can soon create or adopt a minor faction and that faction then can become a power if cultivated adequately.
That would suggest that new powers will have a minor faction while the ones we have now don't.

+1 for this, having to work for your quotas beats idle time and the 5th.

Sorry I can't rep you again, OP - you have a habit of making posts I agree with!

+1 also, and alas, I repped you recently. Apparently...

Just a bolt-on "Oh look, here's the same missions you'd usually get, but you'll earn some PP merits for them!" would do the trick. Realistically, you'd want it to also tie in to the BGS, with system control and influence among minor factions being a determining factor in powerplay.

It's a very good idea, and maybe not so hard to implement. Sorry i cannot rep you again. Maybe you can get some kill missions against power play forces in your system, then after you kill them and get the merits/credits for this you can unlock a bigger quota.
