What is a clean assassination when is says no lethal harm or mission fail?

Mission states no lethal harm to anyone or you fail the mission so what the heck is a clean assassination if you can't kill (harm) the target?

It's just the wording that's confusing. If you only kill the mission target, you'll be fine.
