I've been listening to a lot of power metal with a female vocalist lately.

As the title asks, what is it about a woman singing that is so calming? Is it a maternal thing?

Are you sure it's not just cognitive bias. You might be searching soothing vocalists, as opposed to finding female vocalists soothing.

Was never a fan of Tura Satana. The funny thing with this is that Agoraphobic Nosebleed usually play incomprehensible 25 second grind tunes...

EDIT: Tura Satana. She was apparently a top person, I had some friends who knew her back in the day but never ran into her myself!

EDIT2: I'd almost forgotten Walls of Jericho for harsh female hardcore vocals. They've been going for years!

It's a great question. I thing both men and women are subtly and primordialy keyed in to the sound of each others voices. My advice, if you're a man speak slow and relaxed and deep. I think this has the same pertinence for women as the effect you speak of :)

Does it matter? :) The point is usually a female voice is smoother. While A male voice is deeper, and have a growling tone just like an attacking animal.
