Ship design looks quite good, a little more in line with what I would envisage as being of human origin.

It apparently has seemless planetary systems and full seemless entry into planetary atomosphere. From what I have seen the planet surface is not all that flash and the graphics engine is not that flash, lots of big jaggies and nasty tacky colours but it looks significantly better than the abomination that was Darkstar One.

Space looks good - lots of the obligitory dark bits with some odd pretty light bits.

Not a fan of the cockpit and deffo not a fan of a cockpit with your little ship hanging around on the bottom of the screen. A bit too arcadey.

It still gets me that after all this time after X3: Reunion came out (Oct: 2005) that producers are still manageing to make games look significantly worse. Quite a talent that is.

Well, graphicly not as nice as X3, but if they are doing seamless planet transition their doing something that X3 has failed to do..

The Youtube Videos show off the game... It looks nice... Certianly inspired by Elite..

I'll give them bonus points for their seamless planet landing/take off, even though the planet texturing isn't that good at a certian point..

I'm not sure that there is really any excuse these days for not attempting to at lease maintain a standard visually. WE HAVE THE TECHNOLOGY

There is http://www.fl-tw.com/ (Infinity) that 'looks' interesting but seems to lack the depth and/or structure of Elite. There seems to be a bit of a move toward a linear storyline - blah. Sure looks pretty tho and clean, none of this bizarre need to fill space with crap - the odd nebulae is ok but really since when has space been red and purple and full of asteroids:

Yeah, I know... If you had used the search function :) "sorry, I'm just razzing you" you'd notice I was the first to post about Infinity..on the boards...

Infinity looks much much nicer, and that's the quality I'd love to see in a current Space genre game, but they are still a little ways off from a release... This Tomorrow War game from what I can account from it, is done and just needs some english translation/graphics work.

I'm just a little surprised to see Tomorrow War appear out of nowhere, and be surprised that it's at least decent looking... Gameplay, that's a whole different story...

I've never been into space sims, to be honest. Frontier (sub)series is the exception here.

Still, this game appears to have newtonian flight model and full scale planetary systems complete with planets. As for the graphics, I picked up Frontier after the pixel shaders became a standard, so it's safe to say that graphics is largely non-factor in my case - as long as it doesn't try to physically damage my eyes, I won't whine.

LOL touché - I do remember, I'm just attempting to stimulate a bit of conversation on this forum - lots of comment - not much contribution.

The more I think about it the more it seems like the open endedness of Elite and Frontier are the main things that have given them longevity.

You're right the graphics aren't the be all and end all but it sure helps with the immersion.

I'm looking forward to Infinity. I've been looking at the website a lot recently. Because it's a generated universe even the developer doesn't know what's in the next system....

For example, there could be a fantastic trading route which becomes well known. As a result it ends up being heavily protected by a gang of greedy players, which could be the start of an all out war!

In the meantime somebody has else has discovered an even better trading route and is making a fortune.

There isn't enough information about Tomorrow War, but the title suggests it's mostly about combat.

Well I installed it and had a play - server was empty unfortunately being in the States and all. It actually looked really good, I did have 16x AA turned on with hardware acceleration but there is only so much that will do. The flying actually feels really good with just the right level of Newtonian physics and arcade combined. It does feel like what I invisaged E4 space flight to feel like in that it is similar to Frontier flight controls.

Colour me impressed.

A screen shot from my monitor: Will post more a little later on when I don't feel like I'm about to fall asleep at my computer desk.

Played on:
