Engineers What is "military ships" ?

So I am aiming to upgrade the Multicannons on my FdL.

To get the first grade I need:

1x Cracked Industrial Firmware [Surface Data Point, Mission Reward]
1x Hybrid Capacitors [Ship Salvage (Military & Authority ships), Signal Source]
1x Nickel [Surface Prospecting, Mining (Ice rings)]

So firmware... alright, race around planetsurface for data points. Seems simple enough.

Hybrid Capacitors... salvage from military and authority ships. Well, I have no intention of attracting a massive bounty on myself. I am so sick of those random interdictions where NPC's simply teleport themselves onto your 6 and instant-interdict, or magically conjure themselves up behind you if you drop out of supercruise that I spawned in a Sidewinder and intentionally boosted myself into the interior walls of the station to clear the bounty. Anyways, /rant off.... so if I can't get it from Authority ships I assume I can get it from military ships.

I went to Nav Beacon and to a High and Haz RES and killed all sorts of things from Eagles to Anacondas but none of them dropped the capacitors.

I tried to hit signal sources but no luck there (yet anyhow, kudos to RNG I suppose).

These Hybrid Capacitors seem to elude me and I am stuck wondering...

What exactly are military ships?

Military ships count as Authority vessels. You need to find a CZ (preferably low intensity) choose a side then kill them. Of course it is kinda hard to scoop the materials in a CZ but I managed to get a few Electrochemical Arrays I needed for my Weapon Focused Distributor rank 3 upgrade.

I've seen them in USS (I tend to check every emissions one I see), as mission rewards, also as mentioned in CZ's.

If you want them asap, prob try the CZ first, but keep checking the mission board every time you dock somewhere.

Also, if you're in a CZ, grab all the polymer capacitors you can for the grade 4 mod, this is the only place I've seen them, except a few as mission rewards.

I'm 1 modified embedded firmware off grade 5 for my huge MC on my FDL. The materials I've found quite easily, but struggled with the data as I hate base assaults...

I'm guessing you've got 4x mediums? That's gonna take a while to do.

Good luck in your search commander...

ps, Probably worth making a list of everything you need grade 1-5, and grab it all when you see it.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Guess I will try my hand in a CZ. I know some are up in my local systems and there's been some nice missions worth 1-2mill for killing ships in the CZs.

My FdL is fitted with:

2 x C2 Beam Lasers (shield strippers)
2 x C2 Multicannons
1 x C4 Multicannon

So I'm primarily looking to upgrade the C4 first, then work on the C2's. But yeah, it will mean at minimum x3 of everything on the recipe list.

Then I need to upgrade the Power Distributor... and then the Beams... and then the FSD... and then... and then... *head explodes*

**edit**

Thinking I might just team up with some friends and let them do combat in the CZ while I remain neutral and grab the materials :D

Careful in conflict zones you'll want to move out of range before you pick a side as you can get randomly focused if you choose as soon as you arrive, but after that you should have no problem collecting a good few parts in a FDL! Good luck

Also you'll be surprised how fast you can get most parts on a shopping list, I had a very similar one on my python - FSD/Thrusters/Distributor/Shields/2x Beams and only legacy firmware and yttrium took me any time, you quickly get an eye for which materials are hard to get and which aren't.

To the OP: i assume you try to improve multicannons with Tod Blaster engineer. Well you can go to Bielonti, an anarchy system near his system and shoot everything with impunity. Linky to system:

Personally i used the system to farm haulers for mechanical equipment and also raise my level for Aisling (prismatic shields). Two birds with one stone :D

Do PowerPlay Agents count as military or system authority, does anyone know? On a related note, do PowerPlay Couriers count as transport ships (so long as they're Haulers, Type-6s, Type-7s or Type-9s)?

I shot a federal logistics asp at a nav beacon and it dropped the heat exchangers and heat dispersion plates, so I am going with yes. Then I noticed the anarchy system I was in had some 'seeking weapons' points in them. Each with 3 T-9s and no escorts :) :) :) :). If you shoot one, the others don't do anything.

Yup.

And each one carries around 20-30 tons of battle weapons too!

If you are into that robbery type stuff, me, I just kill em for the materials, those dirty weapon sales people. Promoting violence against innocent soldiers, how dare they!. Well that is how I justify killing em anyway :p

You can use limpets in CZ. In Res Areas and Nav points you should not as they count as cargo but this doesn't matter in a CZ . Just target what you want open the hatch and shoot the limpet.

I got these and lots more from a cz. The trick here is to enter the cz and don't pick a side yet. Head away until you just have the fringes of the battle jumping about on radar. Then pick a side head back and pick off the outliers drop a few shots on the ones already in combat and kite them away from the main force. You can easily scoop in comfort then when down.

In 2.1 limpets are no interesting cargo anymore for NPCs. In RES/NAV be carful what the limpets pick up, because if that was cargo the next pirate scanning you will see that you have, that he wants right now.

Good to know. will try that out immediately
