Newcomer / Intro What is Mouse Deadzone?

I feel stupid, but I have never had to set this particular setting in a game before. I have Googled and searched but I can't find a definitive answer on what this actually does.

I found some posts with various ideas for setting it with mouse sensitivity..but I can't tell what it does.
Trying to get my mouse to my liking but having hard time (highly playable, just trying to get it perfect) since I don't know what this setting does.

Thanks in advance.

a deadzone is a way to zero out any control inputs near the middle of the controls range of movement. normally this is used with a joystick where holding the stick in the centre may still give a little measurement that can make it difficult to fly level. if that is the case you would increase the deadzone until holding the stick in the middle does let you fly level

so if you find it hard to get the mouse to a place where you are flying level then a deadzone can help out. the bigger the deadzone the wider the area is where you will be flying level, but also the further you will have to move your controller until you do start to move your ship.

Im a M/K player so this will help

Thanks both, this helps and I will watch the video :)

Do you use Roll mode for X Axis? I found that to be very weird but maybe with the tweaks in the video it will be better. I always felt like it worked better using my keyboard to roll (Q and E is what I use)

Just curious what others do.

Most people use Yaw for X Axis I believe - just go with what suits you best. I started out with Roll and it just stuck with me.

Rolling using the mouse is what the original Elite did on Atari St and Commadore Amiga machines did. I just stuck with it because it's what I'm used to and it's surprising how quick it comes back to you.

Since everyone answered ur question, I would like to add that mouse deadzone is usually the neck, if mousetraps are used..SNAP!

on roll vs yaw, i've not personally messed with this as i didn't spend long in the combat demo before deciding i wanted to invest in the game and stuck a HOTAS on order, but i have read some very good ideas on how to get the most out of the mouse

some mouse users recommend swapping roll for yaw on the mouse and putting roll on the keys (eg A and D). because roll and pitch are your manoeuvring controls, and yaw and pitch are your fine aim controls it makes a lot of sense to keep the mouse for the fine aim and put the coarse movements on the keyboard. had i read that before i went HOTAS i'd have certainly given it a go and i'm fairly sure my aim would be better for it (thanks to many years playing FPS games)

so it's something well worth investigating if you're getting setup for the first time.

Lol, noted in my Guide to the Galaxy notepad :)

That's what I do. I messed with both last night per all the recommendation and the posted video above and I Just prefer it with Yaw as well. Seems to work out. I never got my mouse 100% to my liking but close. I am not great with a mouse I have always had an odd problem where I can never get it feeling just right, depending on the mousepad type and my DPI settings etc. I'm running with what I go now and hopes to get used to it. Only trading right now so it doesn't matter too much.

Thanks for all the replies everyone :)

I had it configured like this when I was using KB & Mouse (Roll on Q & E) found it so much easier.
