What is power commodity allocation?

It is a commodity your power uses in order to perform certain tasks.

You have a flat allocation which caps the number of commodities available to you in a given time window. ranking up raises the cap allowing you to be more effective in a shorter time span.

The cargos you can haul to systems you haul cargoes to to do the stuff you do at the systems.... ok that's gotta be the dumbest sounding thing I ever wrote but I'm leaving it there because lol.

So anyway. Um, I'd have a better idea what to tell you if I knew who you were with, every power is different. With Arissa for example it's Garrison Supplies for Control and Corruption Reports for Preparation, those are her faction commodities--you get one merit per each, so your allocation determines how many merits you can get for a cargo run every half hour.

Oh wait, So if rating one allows me to carry let's say 10 corruption reports per half hour.
Rating two will allow me to carry perhaps 20?

And when will this happen? Because I got enough merits for a new rating, but I did not get more reports to transport. Will I have to wait until the week is over?

I'm confused by this as well, I was expecting to move up to Rating 2 at 100 merits. Still showing Rating 1 and only getting 10 items every half hour. Do we really have to wait until to the end of the week to get the Rating unlock?

As far as I understand it, you will 'Level Up' when the next week starts. Once all the preparation, expansion and control happen, you will rank up. At least, that's what I'm guessing will happen.

Expansion and Forifying systems needs a power commodity to reach its target. Think of it as a certificate. To fortify a system you need to goto your powers home system and speak to the agent there. He will give you upto 10 certs to go and deliver to the system you want to help fortify. This number isnt restricted to your level though you can actually stor as many as your cargo can hold then go deliver them. What the Power commodity allocation means is that the agent supplying the certs will spawn 10 more every 30 mins, at level 2 he will spawn 15 every 30 mins and so on. you can however speed this up by paying 100k @ level 1 im not sure what the cost will be for level 2. You then take your certs to the systems hand them into the agent there and youget rewarded 1 merit point for each cert you hand in.

A dev said in another thread that the merits kick in at the end of each weekly cycle. So you should have your new ranks at the end of this cycle whenever that is.

Yes you level up or down at the end of each cycle. Which is a week.

Why is this mechanic completely one sided and ignoring those who choose a combat only role in the game? For example, I am aligned with Levigny-Duval mostly because of the bounty hunting benefits. That's all I am interested in. I fly a ship outfitted for pure combat and I removed all cargo space to do that. I shouldn't have to sacrifice the role I choose to play, even temporarily, in order to benefit from the same increase to merit earning ability. In my opinion they should just remove the cargo space aspect of the certs and just keep the limit cap. Tying it to cargo space is just silly and needless.

this isn't the only way to earn merits. in fact, the combat way of earning is more efficient imo. go to an opposing powers system (control or expanding) and kill their agents, couriers, and aid workers. 15 merits per kill, and it's not limited to any amount per hour.

It is so fracking slow hauling power coupons around, if anything the combat merits should be nerfed to be more balanced. Since, "I shouldn't have to sacrifice the role I choose to play, even temporarily, in order to benefit from the same increase to merit earning ability."

I really don't get it.

I'm aligned with A. Lavringy Duval now, sitting in Olelbis. If I wanted to gain merits via Combat now, could I go to Shenggan, which is (Controlled | Felicia Winters) and start shooting Fed ships ?

I shot a Federal Agent in LTT 4358, which is (Exploited | Felicia Winters) , but all it did was giving me a Bounty, but no merits. It said "Hostile" in the bottom right corner, so I guess I was at least in hostile territory, but this clearly did not work.

So how does this actually work ?

You can gain PP merits via combat in one of two primary ways:
1) Expansion : go the system your Power is expanding into and enter Resistance Pockets and start killing enemies. 10 merits per kill currently. Incidentally, you can also interdict ships flagged as ENEMY outside the pocket for 30 merits here (this may be a bug, not sure but we tested it and it works).
2)Undermining : go to another Power Players CONTROL (not exploited) system and interdict and kill their ships (flagged as enemy) for 30 merits each. YOu may see enemies from multiple Powers running around. YOu can interdict and kill them all or focus on a particular group depending on who you are aligned with. Some examples would be Patreus Sentinels. Torval Shields. Utopian Overseers, Kumo Crew Watch, Federal Agents.

Note, in both cases you must return to one of your own CONTROL systems to redeem the merits under Contacts/Power Play

Here is a good Power Play Guide.

Thanks a lot, that worked. Still, there's the question, is it worth the trouble ?

I wanted to go on a killing spree ( read : Bounty Hunting) next week, but now I have nearly 20k Bounties for some measly merits, just enough for Rank 2 ( which I obviously only get next week ... ). Since pretty much all Feds I met were Competent + and they were pretty rare, it took quite the amount of time to even get those few blasted out of space.

This strikes me as a job for well equipped people, not like me in my puny Viper MK IV ....

Or you can team up.

When I tried this for the first time a week or two ago, another CMDR followed my wake when I interdicted an npc. He turned up just as I was finishing off the npc (it was only a small ship), and since he was from a different faction, I thought he was going to attack me (and I hate fighting FAS's in my DBS), but instead he wanted to talk, and after he checked that I was there to undermine, like he was, he offered to wing up.

First time in a wing outside a RES, but he was a really nice guy, helped me get to grips with it all, then he added another guy there for the same thing and we hunted together. Every time one of us interdicted an npc, we all swooped in, got at least one hit in each and all got the merits. Made it much faster.

Nice :) This was pretty much my Plan, but I feared it wouldn't work out well, as my buddy never used wings before, neither did I.
Well, seems we should start learning how this works :D Maybe we have some luck and we find some people to join us as well.

I fly an A-rated Vulture for PP most of the time as Resistance Pockets can get intense solo. As stated above the way to counter that is to WING UP. The PP Players all have forums and Reddits and most have some form of CHAT. They are usually pretty happy to form a wing and help. I have a buddy that I wing up with once or twice week, he flies an ASP. Together the two of us generally pull in about 300 merits an hour and could certainly do more. With two the killing work is pretty easy. Undermining is a bit easier because you can often pick the target, so you just skip the ones you think are too tough.

It also pays to check with the PP Forums and Reddits as most groups will have a plan in place for the week also called the CYCLE. Who have you pledged with? Aisling Duval (ALD)?

Is it worth it? RANK 4 is pretty easy to hit and maintain. 1500 merits to get there only about 750 a week to maintain. It pays 5 million a week for 2-3 hours of undermining. If you are really dedicated, 10,000 merits gets you to rank 5 and then 5000 merits a week maintains it. RANK 5 pays 50 million a week. For me RANK 4 is where I stay. I can farm merits early in my week to keep my rank up and then have the rest of the week to do other things.

Thats the price of the choices you made bro. Other factions i know DO only require combat, but therein lies the considerations in choosing factions i suppose.
