Painite is still worth quite a bit but it's slightly rarer. However, a good painite hotspot can also reveal platinum, osmium, gold and quite a few other precious metals.

'Course, how much and what you pick up is governed by your cargo capacity.

I spent an hour in a nearby tiny platinum hotspot in a dinky metallic ring last night, and came back with 100 mixed metals of platinum, osmium, and a couple of other bits as well like samarium and palladium (I think?)... just shy of 20m space-bucks, which isn’t going to make any eyes pop out but it felt satisfying. If I’ve followed happenings correctly the most recent balancing had made the highest value stuff more volatile in price but the mid-high value metals see consistently decent sell prices at industrial economies.

Remember to take into account the "bulk tax" when selling your cargo. INARA commodities page highlights the levels if you hover over the demand level figure in their tables. e.g:

If you find the right spot, you'll get platinum, osmium, painite, palladium and gold all together. If you're looking for the highest earning rate,, it's probably better to ignore the gold and palladium unless you have a carrier to park nearby to transfer it all to and sell in bulk. I was filling up my 512 ton cutter with platinum, osmium, samarium and palladium in 65 minutes in a nice spot I found in Hyades Sector DB-X d1-112. It's not the painite double hotspot, which isn't bad. That was during the CG last week, when they wanted samarium.
