Newcomer / Intro What is the difference between yaw and thrust?

I'm still learning the game but I'm confused about the difference between yaw and lateral thrust. As I understand it, they're both different kinds of "move sideways" is that correct? What's the difference? What's a good use case for each of them?

Aha! Thanks for making it clear for me.
Also, lateral thrust itself is used for yaw... You turn the ship around its X axis by applying lateral thrust. Let's say you want to yaw to the left (port), so the ship computer applies sufficient amount of thrust to the starboard bow thrusters (front right side front thrusters), pushing the bow of the ship to the left, and at the same time, it applies similar amount of thrust to the port quarter thrusters (left rear side thrusters) to move the stern of the ship to the right (starboard) side... ;) :)

Just start the external camera, go into free camrea mode to find a nice vantage spot, then switch to ship controls and watch.
