What is the extras system in the food/drink shops?

Hi guys,

I do not get what are the extras in the shop. For every food type you are selling, you can set the extra to "little, some and a lot" (if I remember correctly). But there is noting related to the price.

Briefly, what is this system? Does it impact the sales? Why would you not just put every extra to "A lot" if it does not cost anything?

Anyway, I was not able to understand that system. Help would be appreciated here!

Great game!!! A love it. Way too much complaints in this forum ... this is by far one of the best sandbox game of the last 5 years.

I believe that its not currently implemented as yet.
It should be similar to the system we saw in previous games.
I'm hoping that it will be included with the next big Version Patch (1.1.0 I hope!)

Partially implemented, I think. It does affect your operating costs by a few dollars per item, but I haven't seen any impact on sales yet when I've tried it.

I was just looking at Steam user reviews.

"Planet Coaster is an unfinished gaming masterpiece." was in one of them, and that's pretty much how I feel. It will be worth all the money I spent in about 3 months if they do their jobs well. I think they are, but until then, I won't know for sure.

You have more faith than I do. Since per-unit costs and sales data aren't in the game at all I'm pretty sure Frontier will not be implementing any in-depth management features in the future. We'll get scenery and rides. If management was at all important to Frontier then they would have done some work on it. Instead they put the thinnest veneer of management in the game so they could market it as more than a pure sandbox building game. It's a great sandbox building game, and I expect Frontier to play to that strength. It's a poor tycoon-type game, and I'll be surprised if Frontier even bothers to put forth the effort to turn it into a mediocre one let alone a good one.

Your pessimism is your own. I can't imagine why they would want to sit so close to greatness and not put in some effort to actually get there. Yes, a "decision-maker" could screw this up, but I can wait a little while longer before declaring it over :p

They already sold their game, the bulk of their initial sales are done with, the reviews have been set.

By modern gaming standards, they are not technically obligated to care about developing the game further, and most companies tend to leave skeleton crews to do bug fixes while working on DLC or planning the next project.

Can't blame people for being pessimistic fam.

No, they're not obligated, but I'm pretty sure they said they're going to.

And yes, the reviews are in, and almost all of them lament a few things like lack of content and management features. I wouldn't be satisfied with that if I were them, and I don't think they are. If they want to sell us DLC's next year, they still have financial incentive to improve these things in the meantime.

I'm sorry if I sound like an ass here, but this seems very naive of you, and is not how the gaming industry works at all.

In fact this kind of pattern isn't even new, it happens all the time.
Just get used to it like the rest of us, hope for the best, but expect the worst.

Pessimism is usually the best way to go. Set the bar low so that you aren't as disappointed when you don't get what you were looking forward to.

I dont know if thats true, this is a genre of games unlike shooters, or actions games. There wont be a sequel to PC in a few years, but there will be add-ons just like in RCT3. More people will find out about the game and it will continue to sell. Not everybody watches reviews and buys games on day one.

AFAIK Frontier devs haven't released any kind of business plan / road map for Planet Coaster, so technically anything is possible.

I agree with G33zer that we shouldn't expect a change of sub-genre / general design vision. Planet Coaster design focus seems to be creativity & sandbox, unlike RCT3. So I wouldn't expect much deep management upgrades, although we may some improvements (I hope).

Once a game (or any software) is designed and produced in a certain direction, is really hard to rollback or change it in substantial manner.

I must aggree with Replica, it's unrealistic to expect much. If I could, I'd happily sacrifice management for better sandbox. [big grin]

BTT: I thought the "extras" were only cosmetics in RCT3, too. I don't think they cost money.
