What is the first game that really drew you in and fascinated you?

It`s hard to point to one game, i was hooked at a very young age...

the first game that made me dream about it and made me go WOW was Black Tiger on the arcades... i had to stand on a chair to be able to play, the memory is so vivid even today, especially the music

but i guess that is not what you are asking about, because arcade games are pretty simplistic and while impressive they just come and go... if what you mean is a game that i was almost obsessed about and spent countless hours trying to figure it out that would be either settlers1 on the A500 or (and that is my pick) Frontier: Elite 2... I have spent to far to much time on that game and gave it quite a lot of focus during my early years

Black Tiger is still awesome. Mame is essential for those of us that played the arcades.

Lords of Midnight!

And I was like: "How does this fit into 48K? Impossible!" and then Elite came out (I think in the same year?) and I went completely nuts about impossible. Kindly David Braben explained how they tackled the whole thing. Saw a vid of it a year or so ago and that settled my mind a bit.

MUD.

I'd read an article about it in in one of the UK gaming magazines and was so intrigued I wrote a letter to Richard Bartle - one of the co-creators - who very kindly sent me a lengthy hand-written reply.

As I recall, it was being run on the Compunet service in the UK in the mid 80's and I ended up wracking up huge phone bills playing the game. [haha]

Hah, wasted too many hours of my life at university playing MUDs through JANET.

I did play original Elite, Wolfenstein and DooM, but the game that really "fascinated" me and had impact on my later preferences was Jane`s F-15 flight simulator. It basically introduced me to flight simming that is now one of my hobbies :)

I was in awe with the original elite - but I didn’t have a computer to run it, until I got an Amstrad CPC.

So, the first game must have been ACE ( Air Combat Emulator ) .

I had a Sears Pong game. That got me started followed by coleco vision, intelivision. Girls became more interesting after that....got married and got back into gaming with the playstation then the xbox. HALO pulled me into online mulitplayer games. Been gaming ever since.

Atari Star Raider/s, f117 Stealth fighter bomber amiga500+ ( Iirc) , the Hobbit ol speccy, Gunship 2000 Amiga 500+ oh and ditto @ moleHD me and my best friend played Alienbreed till the sun came up...... And lastly..........
Monkey Island ( I thank u )

Im old enough to have been around to play Pong, but I was raised in the bush without electricity and mostly lived that way until I was in my early 20's, so there were no video games in my youth. Back in those days it was all D&D and theater of the mind.

The game that ended up hooking me into the medium was Myst, which I fell for pretty hard. I consider it's sequel Riven to be my all time favorite video game across all genres.
