What is the maximum number of characters in your pilot name?

I am considering changing my name and before I wipe the save, I need to know what name I will be able to use. Any idea what is the maximum length?

Not sure exactly, but my name is CosmicSpacehead that's 15. Pretty sure I've seen longer too.

Largest one I got in that list has 20 Characters. Anyone got more?

I actually need at least 25, preferably 28 so this is encouraging. Now the question is whether NPC follow the same rules as CMDRs. It would be a big bummer if I wipe out my save and find that I can't enter the name I want
