What is the point of the KWS?

As the thread name says. I can't work out what their usage is. I've killed dozens of wanted NPC's and get the same amount as if I hadn't scanned them with the KWS. Also what do the higher grade ones do better...is it just the range?

Just the range yes. Pirates and other wanted individuals will often show up as clean in anarchy systems. Scanning them with the KWS will show you all outstanding warrants they have in all systems.

If the people you scanned had bounties with other factions in other systems you'll be able to collect that too.

Great...thanks. So if I scan a clean individual does he then turn wanted? And will the cops in that system come after me for killing him?

If he is not wanted by the authority in the system you are in then yes attacking him is going to get you in trouble.

if he's clean in the system you are in, and there is a police force in this system, he's probably not worth it unless you don't mind getting a bounty. but in an anarchy system, it's the only way to get a paycheck from bounty hunting.

If your bounty is wanted both in the System you're in and in another System with different faction, you'll be able to redeem a higher reward - you must redeem the other Faction bounty voucher in an outpost of that specific Faction and not in any outpost !

If you combined KWS with cargo scanner, you did not get any KWS bounties. It's a bug, so don't use a cargo scanner with KWS.
KWS should give you 10-30% more bounty income, so use it.

I think KWS need some rework.

1. They take too long to scan.
2. Their range is too short.
3. Uses one hardpoint slot, of which we have always too few, anyway.

What do you think?

Additional Question in case anyone knows

Speaking of which, does anyone know how to find the systems where those factions are located? I mean finding an Empire, or Alliance Station is easy. I have no idea how to collect my bounty from "Blueball Industry" or the like.

It doesn't use a hardpoint slot, it uses a utility one.

Do these things require a manual scan action? I notice you can bind them to triggers, but I saw NPCs show up as wanted without doing anything.

i think they work well.
You just need to learn how to use it correctly.
The more expensive versions have longer ranges and scan faster.

Just check transactions, you will see the money pooling up.
I always hunt with Fed and Empire close together for collection purposes.

The strange factions are normally the local faction of that system.
go to nav map, click system, mouse over the stations, look for alliance, this is who sits at the bounty office at that station.

Blueball Industries? Lol, is it full of ex wives?

Last time I used one was during gamma, but the thing I noticed then was that firing on wanted ships often resulted in getting a bounty on me. But if I scanned them first that didn't happen. Don't know if that was a bug or working as intended but it sure put me off bounty hunting since.

Yeah, my problem is that in my ASP I submit to every interdiction along my trade route but then never stop in the local system to collect.

Now, I'm not saying that BlueBall Industries exists or anything, but I'm not say'n it doesn't. Those prison colonies punish somehow.....

I dont't know how to find sub factions in the Galaxy Map, I never tried to do this: When I have to take a voucher from a minor faction, I try not to leave from the System before redeem. I check in the System Map all the outposts around: in the details of the outposts you'll find the Faction or sub faction that outpost is into !

10 seconds is a considerable duration when you're in an hostile environment, eager to fight. I finally got rid of my KWS. I would have kept it if there were 5s scan modules.
And it takes a significant time to recover the purchase price. At least with an Eagle or a Viper.

So for now I hunt without any KWS and it's great fun. I'm way more comfortable with the 5s initial scan alone. Scan, wanted confirmed, go. I may earn less credits but it's worth it.
I'm satisfied with the range though.

It does not feel clunky but I just don't like it the way I play.
