Ships What is the Python Mk2 for?

I use the Python as a general workhorse - a runabout, small cargo runs, salvaging, unlocking engineers.

I thought "Hey, there's a MkII out, that must have some advantages, even if it's just SCO stability..."

Boy was I wrong! That internals selection is terrible! What is this POS for? It's certainly not "general purpose"!

Thanks for moving this to the right forum, that was a goof.

That's because, it's not general purpose, was never intended to be general purpose. Let's quote from the wiki;

Manufactured by Faulcon deLacy, the Python Mk II is a redesign of an iconic vessel. Reimagined as a combat ship that sacrifices internal space for increased manoeuvrability, firepower and defense.

That bit in the middle "combat ship" may give a hint as to what its purpose is intended to be.

I just fixed it.

It's a fighter. A close match for the FDL, with more firepower and center-line seat.

I like it a lot. It essentially replaced the FDL for me.

I sold my Python 1 a few years ago, as it got obsoleted in my fleet. But the Python II is a good fit.

This is what I built. Used several modules I already had laying around to keep the engineering effort down. Not happy with uneven resistances, but only thermal really matters to me.

I really like my Python multi-role armed-trader / mission-runner and doubt I'll ever get rid of it.
I'm a 'conventional weapons' fan. I have to say, the Python MkII ship is a fun, impressive combat ship when used without any powerplay-granted weaponry. When comparing it to the Python, the compromises are evident and make sense in context. To some extent, though it makes the Python no less impressive and even tantalizing as a full combat ship.
Having said that, I believe I'll stick with the MkII for combat since I built it (and enjoy it) and will let the Python continue to serve as the excellent multi-role, don't-try-to-push-me-around ship that it is.

Exactly. As a wandering around armed trader, the Python is perfekt - 220t with a class 6 shield & a class 3 Guardian Boost for over 30Ly Jumps. And when NPCs are going to pull me out of SC - they are welcome :) I guess you are using the Python quite the same way.
When going for some bounty hunting, then i also use the Python MkII.
For hauling the big stuff, there is a 620t Cutter, also fitted as an armed trader and for the scouting i got a Diamondback Explorer with a range of ~400Ly (no Fuel Scoop needed).

Yes, @BarFly. As you likely know, the MKII doesn't 'travel' all that well so I often use my Python in RES combat and CZ combat as well. I opted for less cargo - 128t - so that I could equip other goodies such as an interdictor, HRP, and a collector limpet controller. This allows it to comfortably handle assassinations, salvage operations, and more. A truly versatile vessel.
Happy travels! :)

It was never even supposed to be a multipurpose ship. It's a combat ship through and through. In expert hands it's the best combat ship in the game (especially for PvP), only rivaled by the previous king, the Fer de Lance.

It's not very good for anything else.

When the Python Mk II came out, it was the probably the best Titan Bomber. Not least because some Titans were quite far away from the star and the new SCO helped a lot. Now, it's one of the best PvP ships. So no, it wasn't and isn't a POS at all.

You'll get the Gutamaya Corsair as a medium multipurpose "Python 2" on april 8th.
For ARX.
See the thread in dangerous discussion for more info and pics.

The Python MK2 is for turning your enemies into rapidly expanding gas clouds and tiny bits of debris. And unlike the OG Python, it's actually fun to fly while doing so. It's... Not quite an FDL, but it still feels good to fly.

Oh, and presumably it can do other stuff. Badly. But if you want to do those things, why not pick a Type-8, Krait MK2, Imperial Clipper, or - I dunno. A Python?

I like my Python Mk2. It's a great combat ship especially with Pacifier frags....nothing lives 😬 My only beef is the SCO performance. it's terrible, thermals rise and it chews through fuel like no ones business. SCO optimised my backside (edited to beat the profanity filter)

It's so good at it, Titans are now extinct. 😭
Yes it is! Too good! Stupid amount of DPS.
I see FDLs in a CG now and think "Meh! Amateurs!"
I see Pmk2s in a CG and think "!$^%!£!%£$!!!!!!!...run away!"
In saying that I did toy with a Pmk2 a few weeks back in my T-8 and royally messed it up and ended up taking incoming fire for way, way, too long! Frag Pmk2s are high burst DPS murder boats!
Still managed to escape with 45% hull. Was a brown trouser moment for sure, which I deserved for being an arrogant sausage.
Glad my open only ships are built to withstand a good gank (2.5k+ hull and 1k+ shields)
