Newcomer / Intro What is the vulture like?

I just got back from a trip and saw the specs and only 2 large hardpoints?! That's a bit weird for me, I'm used to the viper so yeah....

but seriously how is it? should I keep with my bounty hunting/trading mix and save for an asp or is the vulture worth it?

The Vulture is a pure fighter like the Viper. If you want to trade as well I wont recommend it.

But as a Fighter its awesome!

I use 2 gimballed pulse lasers and they absolutly wreck subsystems and shields of any ship!

I havent tried PvP yet so i cant give you info on that.
I spent around 22 mil on my vulture to max it out.

The speed and agility are just too much fun! Took on a NPC in an Anaconda and it's just amazing how nimble that little ship is! Power management is very tricky so turn off the cargo hatch and save yourself some headache!

Most delicious. I am kitted at the very low end (8 Mil) and it spanks up to an Imperial Clipper. That's the biggest thing I have found so far, but made short work of it, so most likely can handle more.

I just spend 2 days in a vulture making +600 kills in a warzone so I'm happy with it... A powerplant A powerdistribution and D on the rest I would give the vulture a tryout if I ' was you you can alway sell it back if you're unhappy with it... ;)
Btw it's a ship like the viper that means it's not build for long travel between systems and it's a slow vessel compared to the viper...

Can someone explain this? The beams on my Viper rip through shields, but are fairly useless against the hull of anything large. That's what I use the multicannons for.

Well I can't go into major detail since I'm not a smart man but~ I do know it has something to do with the size of the weapon bigger=better and all of that jazz.

And at the same time I bought myself a vulture and have been using the gimballed pulse lasers and they are amazing. sure if I had two extra hardpoints for multi's or something it would be better but eh if you really want a mix of weapons go for an asp.

thermic weapons still do some damage against the hull, just not as much as multi-cannons. But a big enough thermic weapon it seems can do more damage than small multi-cannons.

The weapons on your Viper are small and medium. They both have a modifier against larger hulls, the smaller weapons obviously more so. The Vulture has two large mounts, so even thermic weapons will be relatively effective. Morever, you can just keep firing with a pair of pulses on a Vulture- something that the two small pulses on my Viper can't sustain, even with everything relevant A-rated. You'll find that the pulses on the Vulture will be far more effective than even the cheese dreams of your Viper.

That ability to carry two large weapons, while being about as nimble as a Viper yet oddly sturdy, is the Vulture's special sauce. It has severe range and power limits, but it's a good specialised fighter.

The pulse laser are very penetrating so very effective against sub-systems (that you can target individually). This is very effective against larger ships, you don't try to grind down the hull to target a critical system (like power) to kill the target.

I see the vulture is only about 4 mil so that may be my next stop. Right now I have a cobra with it semi upgraded out so its pushing 3 million. If I do trade it in it will be a while before I can get upgrades to where they need to be so I hope I can manage to stay alive...

Don't buy a big ship before you can afford essential upgrades. You will die more often and the re-buy costs will cripple you. Best to stay where you are until you have a bit of cash for outfitting then buy. (Been there done that...with an ASP)

The Vulture is a fantastic ship, but very focused. It's a great fighter craft, but that is all it does. It can't do trading effectively due to limited cargo, it's not a great explorer either due to the 13-15 LY jump range (even with the best FSD), and you have to be a wizard with power management to get the most out of it... But if you know those things, and you're willing to put the effort into making it's little power supply work its hardest, then you'll have a fantastic combat ship that can scrap with things several times its size.

It's got a pointy end

It's got engine things at the back

and 2 x pew pew things each side of the driver

that's all I've got to say about that :D

my vulture is worth 6 mill at the mo (was a little bit less on the first hunting trip). for that 6 mill with a great spawn at a res site (lots of big ships, lots of feds, even a conda fed) i was able to pull in 3 mill in 1 hr. so you don't need a 20mill ship to earn great credits, the vulture is a solid ship even with very few upgrades.

Please read this - https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=127951&p=1961575&viewfull=1#post1961575 - The dev went into great detail - basically - a smaller class weapon does less and less damage against larger hulls. So a small class 1 weapon does about 33% of its total damage against a large hull like a conda or a Type 9 etc. A medium weapon will do about 66% of its damage against the same conda or type 9 - A class 3 will do Full 100% damage against the conda or type 9

The Vulture is like having your nipples tweaked while... well this is a family-friendly forum...

Thanks for the clarification. I guess in another six months when I've saved up enough I'll go buy a viper :)

I've only been playing for a few weeks, I've done exploring, trading, smuggling and bounty hunting, tried all the ships up to and including the Asp. The Vulture is, by far, my favorite. It has great maneuverability, though my favorite part about it is the power limitations.

Yes, you read that right and it is in no way meant to come across as sarcasm. Trying to fit the different weapons on to this thing, toying around the internal component options to optimize my performance has been a lot of fun - Even went as far as to start testing things such as your ships weight and its effect on turning! Choose your components carefully.

To sum a Vulture up in to three words... Eagle on steroids!
