What is up with the police?

OK. As the title states why do the police just sit on thier buts and watch as I get scrubbed from space by a pirate? Like they just sit there and watch? I boost to them and they do nothing.     use are they then?

This person is not asking the game to be nerfed or whatever, he was simply asking why the local security force didn't help when he was attacked as it common knowledge that most time they do. The "Elite Safe" commend had nothing to do with the topic of the thread and only serves to run people out of the game and hurt the game overall.

Depending on what type of system you are in the police will be slow and somewhat passive (low security) or reasonably quick and aggressive (high security). It is annoying to be getting whooped up on with a half dozen cops sitting off on the sidelines watching you take a beating... The smell of popcorn can be distinctly noted in those circumstances! It always amuses me that after interdiction, when the police arrive, the first thing they do is scan my cargo.
Then tell me I am all clear.
Yeah thanks, you see that 'wanted' ship just there shooting at me, ummm you wanna do some police work or just keep pi**ing me off?

Having "Report crimes against me" makes the Feds come, but most of the time they just watch. I think they start to join in when it looks like you're about to lose, but otherwise I think they're just taking bets. My ship is virtually invincible against NPCs, so I never see the Feds helping me apart from at the station when the Pirate is stupid enough to open fire in the no fire zone. They must be very thick to do that because I've never seen one survive. Surely they'd pass the word around.

In a word:

you fracking tell me. Last time I was doing some piracy, the cops shot and killed my target that I had immobilized and was in the process of gutting before even scanning me, who was firing hatch breakers and collectors willy nilly.

10/10 procedure right there, guys.

I've had some discussion with others and with the support guys on this - I believe it is a known problem. I wouldn't go so far as to say it is a bug, more just not adequately catered for. I think there should be some improvements in 2.2.
