What is wrong with my refinery? Or what am I missing?

Says my refinery is full constantly, I check it, everything in there is at 100% and just sitting there, I have many tons of available cargo space and my limpets can't make their drops. Its a 4A refinery and I'm trying to do this 500t of mining and then never again no matter what gets released, and I'm frustrated having to vent these sitting at 100% refined and not getting any credit.

Also, strangely whenever I fire a prospector limpet, one of the items in the refinery finishes.

limpets take up cargo space, so for each limpet you carry cargo space is -1 tonne, so if you have 100 tonnes of cargo space, and you carry 100 limpets you will have no cargo space until you fire a limpet which will free-up 1 tonne of cargo space.

It's a bug. Once your refinery fills, it starts acting odd. The bug not only keeps you from mining other minerals, it also has a couple of other effects. When the bug happens, your cargo scoop display will no longer light up when your scoop is open. You'll get the audio saying that it's open or closed, but the light will stay off. You won't be able to enter supercruise until you log off and back on. If you try, you'll keep getting the Hardpoints/Scoop deployed warning.

This is caused when your refinery and cargo hold are full. If you dump minerals from your hold, you'll see that your hold is emptying, but it continues to say it's full and you can't put anything in it unless you fire a limpet. Even if you manually empty your refinery, your number of mined minerals won't increase. It'll get stuck and any further mining won't count for Selene Jean. Check your right hand screen.

The bug will stay with your refinery, even if you sell the minerals. The next time you mine, you'll only be able to gather the number of tons that your cargo hold is rated for. If, for instance, you have a 64t hold, you'll only be able to mine up to 64 tons, even if you dump cargo before it's full.

The way to get rid of the bug is to go to outfitting and store the refinery, then put it back on your ship. (Or sell it and rebuy it). Once done, just make sure you dump unwanted minerals before your cargo hold is full. If you space it and it gets full, you'll need to store and refit it again.

I'm not sure if FD is working on it. I never opened a ticket or bug report, but others have seen this same bug.

Toss a few limpets over the side. It is good that you brought plenty because it is easier to toss them over the side to make room for ores than it is to make a trip for more if you run out. But limpets take up cargo space and so you sometimes have to jettison a few to make room for ores. Good job CMDR. o7

i was trying mining for the first time today myself for this very reason, and got one of those collector limpets, but it always shows me as having 0 collector drone thingys, and thats after i restocked at a station. how much stupid did i do?

As MottiKhan states, it's a bug. Had the same issue last week, spare slots in both cargo and the refinery, but slots that were used were stuck at 100% regardless. I think we possibly got it working again by either a reboot or by turning the refinery off/on, tried so many things I don't exactly recall what kicked it into action.

I suspect you used Restock after installing a limpit collector. Restock does not restock limpits, go to Advanced Maintenance\Restock and manually purchase limpits from there.

This is exactly what happened. To the letter. And until FD explicitly state that is fixed, Bill Turner can take a hike. I'll get my TLB from Nemo and move on. It was bad enough I had to go slog through so much of a task I had already tried and discarded due to extreme loathing, but this bug made it maybe 3x the headache. Came across a noble CMDR with a hull full of painite who gifted me 10 tons and Selene is good enough for me.
